The flap was primarily fitted to satisfy noise regs. Has no effect on outright power.

As far as we all know it was put in for noise reasons. Original prototype CSL didnt have one. It just limits air flow at lower revs and reduces therefore BHP 0-30 bhp over the range it doesnt open compared when sport is pressed

a faulty flap reduces power for part of the range

So no increase in power at all when open then?

Dan,
What i noticed last night was not so much a loss in power but more of a slower delivery higher up the rev range. (and lack of noise) The car would still squirm around while pushing hard out of slower bends but just seemed a little more refined so the power was still there just being delivered slightly differently. Does that make any sense? Might be one of that "you needed to be there moments". |

Dan,
The flap has to open at some point - whether 'sport' mode selected or not. Foot to the floor in either mode still means that the flap is open which means equal power output. 'Sport' mode selection merely affects which throttle profile is used and determines at which engine RPM the flap opens. If 'Sport' is on the throttle response is slightly quicker and therefore has a (very small) affect on acceleration response. I think Shimmy knows the RPM point at which the flap opens in each mode. It was on an old post somewhere on here...

NO
If you floor gas pedal in Sport mode it will deliver 0-??bhp MORe at the rev range above the flap opening position (ie when the flap is closed in NON Sport mode). This is a gradual increase. THis power will only be noticed in the rev range where the sport buttoin has an affect on the flap (something like 3500 and 5200 i think) BUT if you flap is broken and it does not open at all the difference in bhp will continue up to the top of the rev range and makes a total difference of 30 bhp at the top end
