Default Silverstone Challenge

Doing one of these on Thursday 28th - invited by a supplier...

Track time in a GT-R, R8 V10, TTRS, 360/430, Buggies, Caterham, rally car and Formula Silverstone Single seaters....

Not the usual Red Letter day cr4p, but a full on day with all the trimmings....

Anyone done one before ??

Really looking fwd to it - especially the single seater (my first time )

Lucky man, never done one but sounds like an absolute cracking way to spend a... Thursday! As good a day as any!

I bet you the best fun you have will be in the buggies or Rally car. I think the Single Seater might frighten me!

Reporting back on this folks.....mega day out.

Brekkie, lunch and tea at the BRDC pavillion, really well run event with great hosts and instructors.

Cars In order of driving...

Pax in tricked up 370z with ex le mans guy
GTR - a bullet, but felt a little numb
370z - actually good rwd fun
Formula Fords - my first time in a single seater and one of the highlights
Caterhams - twisty / drift type course - ace
Ferrari 360 - great noise but power disappointing - well driven CSL easily show it a clean pair of heels
New Megane RS - felt very underpowered after the above, bit understeer on track
Audi R8 V10 - just fookin immense. Heavy car, but so so rapid. One day.
Audi TTRS - go-kart like but thought it would feel quicker
Fiesta rally car - 160bhp- short gearing and course limited, but a giggle
Off road in Defender - pretty lame

all in all a cracking day - lots of prizes / photos to take home etc. The great thing about it us the instructors really push you in the cars - there's no taking it gently. Not cheap (c. £700, though a freebie). Thoroughly recommended.

It's funny, the ferrari was what many of the group were looking forward to, but the F1 paddle shift was so clunky and unsharp, it turned out to be a disappointment. Made the CSL SMG feel sharp. The Nissans paddles are column mounted, which I didn't get on with and whilst the DCT TTRS shifts were seamless compared with SMG, it felt too easy / digital rather than the SMG analogue "clunk" (if that makes sense ??)

I'd love a go in a single seater and a rally car... one day

Nice one

Sounds like a top day

I know what you mean about the 360, I was massively disappointed with it too.
Had a 911 at the time, was so happy to be driving my 911 rather than that over priced plastic rattle box fiat back home.

A friend has a Audi R8 V10, I’m yet to drive it, but it’s a mental car, something your would not expect boring Audi to produce
