Question New bootfloor/subframe mounts - who's had it?

As the title says, who's had this done?

To those that have...

Who did it? - BMW or Specialist?
What was the quality of the repair like?

Also those that have had their boot floor's strengthened, please answer the same q's above...

Photo's would be good

Thankyoo

James

Nothing done to mine. I have seen this written about but I think only for straight M3s ie not the 'special' ones . I do not recall anyone on here having had this done but then there is always Alzheimers.

New floor here, Murketts did it FOC, two cracks only visible underneath above subframe mounting points. Simpsons noticed it and I removed a/m suspension (sent it off for Refurb) and took car to dealer.

6 weeks later I got her back.

They replaced lower floor to rear of car. Welded, foam filled and painted. As the bulletin issued by BMW.

Ok, well mine is cracked - for some reason or another Simpson's didn't spot it but have offered to do the full repair.

Just trying to weigh up the options...

1) Drop the car to Simpson's ASAP and they will weld all the cracks and then fit all the strengthening plates like they do to the race cars etc. This mean's that it would be a nice neat repair and i'll retain the original boot floor, and the panel would be much stronger therefore preventing it ever happening again.

2) Take the car to BMW, be without it for 6 weeks and have a new boot floor FOC. The only thing that puts me off with this is the quality of repairs seems to differ somewhat with each dealership and each repair. Cutting out and welding a repair panel as large as this is not a small/easy job and there's plenty of scope to cock it up. As soon as you start welding panels in cars the cavity wax on the surrounding panels melts and can cause problems later on with rust etc if not addressed properly.

Would would you guys do?

What do you think would be better for re-sale when/if the time comes? would you rather buy a car that's had the issue done by BMW or actually strengthened by a reputable specialist?

thanks again,

James

The 'uneducated' buyer (mass population) will not know a "reputable specialist" but will assume that BMW have done a good job.

Tough one.

Bad luck on the cracks.

The repair isn't pretty

If SM are going to weld in the turner kit I would go for that I think.

Ouch bad luck .... Note to self sort warranty in morning!
Out of interest how/where did you notice cracks?
From above after stripping trim or can you see from under wheel arch area?

BMW fix cracks on good will, no need for warranty( just don't have a/m rims and suspension fitted)
