Please bear with me, I have had the car for less than 3 months and this is my first SMG car, so I'm not sure whether what I am experiencing is normal or not. As such I thought I would put it down here and hopefully get some feedback from those with more experience.
I have been driving the car around in manual mode, with the shift set to the maximum speed. During normal driving this seems fine, pootling around town the gear changes are all OK, when 'pressing on' they seem OK too, but I have noticed when I have done some full throttle shifts near the redline that the revs seem to drop a bit immediately, then drop gradually over perhaps 0.3s. It is as if the clutch is not re-engaging very quickly. Over the weekend I was driving with the window open and I got a pronounced whiff of what smelled like clutch after a 2nd-3rd shift. I have tried with the traction control off in the faster shift mode and the result is the same. This morning I did the reset by driving in neutral at about 45mph and pulling both paddles back for over 10s, I have since done shifts at the red line on full-throttle, done some slow driving, and some medium speed changes. I have also ran the car in full auto mode but there doesn't seem to be any changes. There is no clutch slip during normal operation, low speed driving, setting off and stopping are all fine. I was told that the car has had a new clutch fitted relatively recently. I have had the car for less than three months and it has a three month warranty, the car came from Bartlett's so I am sure that if there is an issue it will be sorted, but as it is over an hours drive to get there and I don't want to waste anybody's time I thought I would be best to ask here first. Thanks for taking the time to read this, I look forward to hearing your thoughts. MC |

I can only give my experience.
Never smelt any clutch burning. I always lift slightly when giving it the full beans ![]() Now & again I still get what I would call clutch slip, but only when changing into 6th at from max attack in fourth on a private road. Goes away after some spirited driving, sometimes over a few days. I'm still on the same clutch, 58k |

Thanks Trawler. It is ok if I lift, nice and smooth, but I read on here that that was a bad idea!

In town driving your probably better off in S3 then S5 And flat when booting it.
For about £12 I'd change the salmon relay. Might need a really good thrash as it learns your driving style |

Take the car to Barlett's asap Gareth will diagnose the problem The fact you could smell the clutch is not the norm No harm in getting the car checked Leaving the issue post your warranty expiry could be expensive. |

my experience with the CSL is pretty limited too at 6 months.
but I have done a couplpe of track days in it and I NEVER lift a mm on upshifts. Always full throttle when upshifting. it always come on with a thump and I love it. Shifts are crisp but slow compared with PDK, even in S6. but so much character, so mechanical and oh so brutal. ![]() |
