I had a good chat with Teffers and his brother in the PK that night about some of the issues of the day; expect to see future days aimed at different target audiences eg one day for beginners, or road legal cars, no race cars, no slicks. Another day for "industry testing" and the keener drivers etc. My brother went out in the bilstein porsche VLN car and the driver of that car said "What type of day is this????" - he couldn't work out whether this was a VLN practice session as trackday rules were going out of the window. Ah the Nurburgring. For many reasons, its Like.No.Other. |

If that's correct then IMO for that reason alone the TDO needs to sort themselves out and show some organisation skills here! Seems like a total 'free for all' day rather than registered trackday

I just found the speed of the experienced ringers coming up behind me overwhelming as I hate holding anyone up, so I spent more time looking in my rear view mirrors. In our group were 3 Nissan GTRs who had Dirk Schoysman helping them and they said it was nothing like an English track day. |

Your welcome Sounds like you just had some bad luck with the day, true to say that if your a relative newbie on there private or TF you will spend most of your time looking in your mirrors, it takes time to build knowledge and speed.
Although im not going to do any more (the odd one if rob twists my arm ) TF days, the last one I did was completely the opposite, pretty empty due to the DTM being on the GP so I guess most were watching that who had booked up hotels and B&B's, to the last 7 or 8 which were a nightmare due to the amount of idiots. Think you have to pick your days / weekends wisely... a few of us are back out on Oct 1 if you fancy a TF weekend, no race cars or ring records to be had ... love to see some pics (off the car that is) ! I've only done around 60-70 laps. I say "only" because most experienced people regard < 100 laps as newbie territory. Our friends who live out there do around 1200 laps a year. As a beginner, most people would do around 10-11 minutes for a BTG lap. For your first trip you may as well take a nissan micra for all the good a fast car would do. I can turn in a 7:45 BTG time on a clear lap. Russ in his CSL Cup Race Car did sub 8mins for a full lap, which equates to 7:20 to 7:30 for a BTG. So its no wonder the differential is huge. (btw BTG is "Bridge to Gantry" time, which most TF people quote) I think one of the problems with the 'ring, and I guess I'm as guilty as the next man given my post above, is that people really do time and compare times at the 'ring. I couldn't tell you what I do around Snetterton, Rockingham, Cadwell etc. But I can tell you what speeds I do at certain points on the 'ring, what times etc. Rightly or wrongly I think you get dragged into the 'Ring Experience'. I would agree its not like a UK trackday. And thats nothing to do with the TDO, I've done a number of trackdays at the 'ring through various TDO, its always the same, it goes with the territory. I think another problem is that people do a few TF sessions before the trackday and I regard TF as "public racing" the amount of eye-openers you see there.... |
