plucked up the courage to drive to Silverstone tomorrow in the i3
firstly hoping she makes it there and back without needing to refuel/charge secondly not sure they will let me in off to see the boys in the 24 hour race

Well i am pretty amazed by this little thing: Wifey had an issue where it speed limited on the motorway to 56mph which was a bit disconcerting so i ahve taken it out for a couple of runs and found the following;
1. With full charge and full fuel it has range of 180-188 miles (88 miles electric stored and 100 miles fuel charged) 2. in normal mode it runs electric stored power first down to 6% and then asks the little engine (REX) to start up and this maintains the charge in the battery at more or less 6% until the fuel runs out about 100 miles later. 3. PROBLEM - the wifes problem experienced comes from the fact that if you run at 80-95mph in REX mode this will not quite keep the battery at 6% therefore the car automatically puts the ECU into EcoPRO or EcoPRO+ mode which will limit speed to 75mph or 5mph respectively and save power to try to get you home. 4. SOLVE PROBLEM - The long range feature means that you can set the car to start using REX when 75% chareg remains. This means that you can congtinue to use the car at full whack as even if you are not quite maintaining charge, the i3 still has enough stored not to piut you in EcoPRO+ mode. So effectively you can run the car as follows at full whack 95mph; 1. 22 miles on stored electric only (electric at 75%) 2. 100 miles on REX (say electric at 70%) 3. find Refuel say you use another 10% charge (electric at 65%) 4. Another 100 miles on REX (say electrric at 60%) 5.Run down electric to 5% so say another 50 miles So with one 9 litre refuel (two 9 litre tankls = 18 litres) you have covered about 280 miles. And I think you could probably go on forever with refuel every 90-100 miles or at least 500 miles total journey whithout any issues.

I think that all sounds good Shim, but way too much maths for my liking. Still have love for I3 though. Bet you get some interesting looks folding yourself out of it.

that is the problem, you feel like you need to work things out (like me) or you don't (like Kirsty) and you get stuck in Brent Cross

Have you seen that they have a new model coming out later this year with new batteries (same car) but it more or less doubles the electric range?

Quote:
total range 2017 should be about 240 miles without a refuel or charge
