I voted 23, but only because there is no 23.5K,

It all depends who's selling too. Dealer or private sale

There are a few private sellers who want dealer money without any of the services and piece of mind that goes with it. I've noticed cars with over 50K on the clock and advertised at 25K seem to hang around a while.

There’s one in 'Bradistan' with 51K on the clock for £23.999. at the mo. This one

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1456133.htm

The car is pretty clean, not unmarked, but the service book has been lost and the owner is trying to get the new one filled in by all the dealers which it's been to in the past, but of a nightmare by the sounds of it.

Is this the one the OP is referring to?

Off topic but it really bugs me that people can't spell on their adverts! Especially dealers, very unprofessional.

ALCANTRA ?
CONSOL?
TAXE ?

I think its just the secretary in me as to why it bugs me so much.

24-25k, no doubt in my mind.

Also, regarding dealer or private sale, I actually think it makes no difference with a CSL as they are so rare now. Most privately owned cars are in better condition anyway. They will continue to hold firm once we get into some better weather.

I think there will be a few brackets. Very low mileage cars, say under 10k will be very desirable and will hold value best. There will be very few of these around so when they come up they will go for a premium. I could be wrong but I don't think these will ever drop under 35k. Then cars in the 10-20k miles bracket, around late 20's early 30's. 20-40k miles mid to high 20's. Once you get into 40-80k miles cars then low 20's and maybe under 20k if high mileage and not good condition. Obviously as each year goes by the cars in those first few brackets, so say up to 30k miles will hold value better as they will become rarer and therefore more desirable.

I think that prices could creep up but I don't see them ever rising really high in the same way the E30 Evo Sport has or the M1 or the first CSL or even Porsches like the 964RS, 993RS. I think that is probably due to the lack of motorsport history compared to all of the above.

I have times where I think I should sell but in reality what I should do is keep the CSL and just buy other cars alongside it.

I paid £23700.00 on the nose, looking at the values at the mo i think i picked up a bargain cos if someone offered to buy it back for that much now id tell them to fook off !!

Car look great mate, what a steal

It might not to you, but it does to most.

There are a limted number of punters who are willing to hand over 25K cash in a private sale, You only have to look at the ratio of private and dealer cars for sale, to find out most are sold through dealers.

There's three price levels

Trade
Private
Dealer

You might lucky and sell your car for dealer money, but if you want to move it on. its better to be more realistic and price it accordingly or else it could sit around for a while.

I guess you're looking to buy one then?

Also, go and see a car at a dealer and decide if you would buy from them compared to an enthusiast. Bottom line, unless you need finance (very difficult to finance private purchases nowadays) I can't see any other reason to buy from a dealer. The CSL is an enthusiasts car and most owners/sellers are not out to do anyone and if the correct checks are done then it would be a very safe purchase. I'm on my 3rd CSL, 2 were bought privately and 1 was from a dealer. Guess which car was in the worst condition and priced higher.

Same here... when I started my search for a SG CSL, I thought I'd start at the top (Main Stealer) not because of finance deals but I thought they would have " The Best" specimen CSL about. I couldn't have been more WRONG ! ... despite it's relatively low mileage of 43K and three previous owners, the dealer CSL had poor history with missing services, hardly any paperwork to go with it, the sales staff knew nothing about it and it was the most expensive + the so called BMW warranty wasn't the proper "Mondial" BMW warranty but some shitty, in house, waste of time warranty not worth the paper it was written on.
NO sale ...

The second SG CSL was being sold by a non franchise dealer who knew a little more about the CSLs, the car itself had higher mileage, more owners the the previous CSL, a bit more history and it was better priced but the car itself looked very much neglected with a thick layer of poorly applied Wax and a long list of "To do" things. Some BMW warranty soon to expire, so more expense. He wouldn't move on the price either nor wasn't willing address the "To do" list .
No sale but thank U for your time

Car number three was an enthusiast owned, private sale by a pleasant CSL owner who clearly LOVED his toy. This was the highest mileage SG CSL, with the highest owner count, however the history file was BIG & complete, no issues with the car itself (none), just had the BIG Inspection 2, just had the proper BMW Warranty renewed (11 months), longish MOT + enough tax to get me on the road there & then, recent tyres & as NEW CUP wheels, NEW windscreen, the body work of a 10 000 mile car (glistening) despite poor weather. It drove like a NEW car, no creaks or rattles. If the odometer said 30K miles I would have believed it (68K was the actual reading) at first sight. SOLD to me the following day and NO regrets about buying it Privately. Best car I've ever owned... by far (and I've had a few nice cars in my short time). THANX to Jeff and all the previous owners for looking after her.
