is there anywhere specifically to look for CSL's other than here and Pistonheads?
they appear to be as rare for sale as my Sunbeam lotus was!

I have a CSL & 2 classic shaped porsches ( 964c2 & a '73 2.4S) so if you want to know anything ask away

i've been in classic porsches but never driven one, and if i feel a bit underwhelmed and overpriced my other (possibly more exciting) option was to be the M3 CSl which would appear to tick all the right boxes:
exciting drive/rwd/good looks/quality/hold value

i'm not after another "fastest car on track" , just something that ticks all the boxes and will potter about or do fast road runs, and drive to /from the odd trackday, or maybe another ring trip.

With all Porsches, dont make judgemnets untill you see them in the flesh. I've gone to see some 993's before that looked great on photos but turned out to be dogs in the flesh

Of those 2 porsches, the 993 appears to be a C2 and the 964 is a C4 ... the 964 4wd was a different system than used in 993 and later cars. I had a 993 C4 and it was superb( c2 would have had better steering feel though) , but I gather the 964 c4 really needs some suspension mods for it to start feeling alive ( naturally it will understeer stock)

Personally with 964's , I'd try & find a 964C2 as it will give you the purer 911 feel & ultimately be more desirable in the long run if you come around to selling it.

The 993 C2 will feel a quicker car than a 964 due to a bit more power & the 6 speed box.

Which one to choose comes down to preference. I really like my 964c2, but even then I'm fitting a g-pipe to the exhaust for a bit of extra noise & next week I'm fitting Bilstein adjustable coil overs allround. My other wish list mod would be a lightened flywheel.

Comparing either to a CSL is difficult ... all I can say is that it took a while, but the CSL has really got under my skin. I love it. Its all drama. It feels more alive than a stock Porsche . Downside is it just wants to be driven hard all the time where as 964 can do both the crusing Sun afternoon drive & then the thrash across the moors. I do worry though about the price of parts for the CSL and wether something's going to break as it does feel highly strung

I'm a porsche man through & through and can't ever see me not having a 911 , but it would be a very difficult decision to choose between the CSL & the 911 ... so do what I've done & get both

I like your style. I'd probably have both too if i had another spare garage ;-)
C2 for me i think if i do go 911 but im not convinced I'll get great vfm as everyone is chasing the same mint cars. Saying that i have only seen one csl for sale so far its like hens teeth!

Yes immediately. Good cars obviously being watched out for and go fast.

Are there any forum members in south Yorkshire or anyone close who might be willing to show me round their car? Never actually been in one although i remember seeing about 3 or 4 of them parked up a few yrs ago at millbrook proving ground which we were gawping at. No idea what they were upto

Delayed reaction to this thread, not been on for a while!

I'm thinking of selling but want to do a track day first as I've never done one. Depending on the timing for that may be selling about the time you will be looking to buy.

It's silver grey and will be up to about 75k miles by then if that's the sort of thing you're looking for?

Based over in East Yorkshire.
