One reason I did opt for a CSL instead of the 1M, and this does sound stupid really. But the Valencia Orange I always thought was a one off 1M only colour, or like LSB and Phoenix yellow etc. Now I see it on every 1 series! And no it's not Sedona or anything, but actual velencia!
So anyone looking at one who knows f all about cars, will think its a 135 with a body kit

Told you it sounded stupid

I have, sort off, as have both. Very different cars for different occasions in my view. CSL is such a special package that a 1M could never compete with, however it is not a daily as far as I am concerned. It is for when you just want to go for a drive and enjoy. For a daily though I love the 1M. I love the looks and rarity. It is a great thing to be in when having to deal with the chores of daily driving, comfy, not ridiculously loud, great sound system etc, though if the road does open up in front of you its great fun. The engine isn't in the same ball park as the csl's but again for daily duties I prefer it. So much more torque means don't upset the wife as don't always have to rev the nuts out of it.

The 1M is a great car, just not as good an all rounder as an E92 M3 which is what I changed mine for as it is my daily.

The CSL is more hardcore than the 1M no doubt, but it wouldn't see which way the 1M went on a straight road - track is different of course. But then I changed the CSL after a year for a GT3 which I have still after 5 years.

So what have we learned here....

1M's are fast as fook (especially remapped) and good fun
E92s are the best all rounder money can buy
CSLs are awesome
GT3s are even more awesome

And Z4s are for hairdressers

I think this concludes the topic
My hairdressers Z4 35is kicks the ass of the 1M any time of the year and day of the week.
Its double as loud and has a better chassis.
Ah I forgot, it looks beautiful too !
Check its brother the z4 gt3... best bmw ms race care ever ?
Proud to be driving the M version of it.

I have previously owned both and they are very similar in enjoyment but vastly different in power delivery.

The CSL has bags of power but the 1m is just relentless!

It helps the 1M has a blower and is a good few years younger then CSL. Now imagine the CSL with a Turbo ............. probably even more relentless

How many CSL owners would sacrifice the airbox for a charger or turbo conversion though. Thought about it, but just don't think i could do it!

Not many... agreed I certainly wouldn't .
My point is 1M v CSL is an absurd comparison (both good cars) it's just one is a full blooded, iconic "M" car with pedigree and an N/A engine (as "M" Gods intended) ... the other is a modern take on "M" cars with an addition of a Turbo ( to meet the stringent modern emissions & the needs of the "Must Have all the Power NOW !!! " demands of the new "M" cars clientele.
Take the 1Ms Turbo away from the otherwise unremarkable 3 litre straight 6 and then "Go Compare"
