I've the opportunity to buy an "engineless" CSL, has met it's end with a nasty bang, requires a short motor......
Silver grey, 38k miles, AP brakes and KW suspension, otherwise standard, has lived the last two years purely on track, in otherwise good mechanical health, bit chippy but never been stuffed..... Belongs to a friend, neither of us know how to value it really and while I don't want to pay over the odds I wouldn't want to shaft him either. Any thoughts and opinions on what I should be paying would be great fully received? Cheers! |

Surely it about sourcing a replacement engine and subtracting that cost plus fitting from about £27,000.
Pip Addendum: give or take £2,500 |

Is it recorded, usually as a 'Rule of thumb' Cat C 1/3rd, Cat D 2/3rds off the current market value of the vehicle.
If not, a car reading £38K with full BMW Service History, low owners etc. could fetch anything up to £32 in current climate, dependent upon overall condition. Sensibly in this case a deduction for the cost of engine + Labour fitting would appear to be fair. It would be insurance assessed as a 'Cat C' so either option is available. Good Luck! ![]()

also factor in as csL prices rise, cost of relplacement second hand engines will rise as well.
Low mileage secind hand engines will make a premium if you can get one and if it is a high miler, value of finished car will reduce further

Knock 7k off current market price should see you right. So £23k
Although I would want it for £20k. |
