BMW Drivers Are the Angriest in Britain, Says Survey
By STEPHEN WILLIAMSIf you’re a BMW driver — now, don’t get mad at this — you are the angriest motorist on the road, at least in Britain. So says a survey of about 3,000 motorists in Britain, which found that even delivery men — those often reckless gents who drive the venerable “white vans” — are more polite that the folks who pilot Bimmers. The survey was conducted by GoCompare, an agency based in Wales that compiles automobile insurance comparisons for British drivers. ”Although the white van man still features highly on the list, he has been well and truly over taken by BMW drivers, who the British consider rude, dangerous and bad tempered,” Lee Griffin, chief operating officer of GoCompare, told The Telegraph. Lynsey Walden, a spokeswoman at GoCompare, said that her company commissioned the survey, which was conducted online in September among a sampling of motorists picked at random. Complaints ranged from tailgating, to speeding, to surprise lane changing and cut-offs. More than half of all drivers said that they had suffered a “bad experience” at the hands of a BMW driver, and nearly one out of four drivers said he or she has was physically confronted by a driver who got out of his car after an unpleasant exchange on the road. Truck drivers came out No. 6 on the list, after BMW, the dreaded white vans, Audi, Ford and Land Rover. ”Lorry drivers have a top speed of 60, but if you have one tailgating you it can be very intimidating,” Mr. Griffin said. Filling out the last four spots were drivers of Vauxhalls, Range Rovers, Volkswagens and Mercedes-Benzes. On a related note, please allow me to mention that I recently purchased a new BMW and wrote about my European delivery of the car for The Times. Of course, you can only imagine how furious I was at the editor after he refused to print my assessment of the idiot drivers I passed on the autobahn. |
