Default Tyre choice - opted for Michelin Pilot Super Sports

Hi,

I appreciate tyres is a well trodden topic but here goes...

I've been hunting for my next set and I narrowed the choice down to 3 options. My main requirement is that they're great in both the wet and dry. I expect to use them mainly on the road although hopefully they'll see the odd track day.

Tyre prices are based on the cheapest of either camskill or mytyres and are delivered unfitted. They're to fit original CSL wheels so sizes are 235/35 R19 and 265/30 R19.
  • Falken 452: Lots of positive comments on here so seems like a good mid-range choice. I can't find a group review with the other 2 tyres I've picked so I don't know exactly how they compare. However, from the comments I've read, they're sure to be less competent in all conditions. Cost approx. £500
  • Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2: Gets consistently great reviews. The wet weather grip is meant to be especially good. Cost approx. £770 (although really £730 as there's a £40 fuel discount offer with these)
  • Michelin Pilot Super Sport: Great comments on here and gets the best dry reviews. Still very competent in the wet, but not the best. Cost was approx £850 when I checked last week, but dropped to £767 when I looked this weekend (with camskill)

I figure that a £270 saving to have mid-range tyres is a false economy. When my driving talent improves and I get to exploring the limits of the car, I don't want to have any doubts about the tyres. The great feedback on the Super Sports on here coupled with the superior dry performance made up my mind, so I've ordered a set.

Hope this info is helpful to others. I think the camskill price is pretty good so I wanted to share that in case anyone else wants to order some.

No doubt they'll be some folk who can get trade prices telling me I've been had!
