Default Brake fluid type?

Hi Guys,

I am going down the BBK route at the moment and am interested to know what type of brake fluid people are using for road use and a few track days.

I know it may seem a silly question, but there seems to be many types of "racing" fluid available.

Castrol SRF is the best fluid in many peoples opinions. Just one tip, don't get too hung up on dot numbers - Castrol SRF is Dot 4 but has the highest boiling point out of all the fluids, which is essentially all that matters.

There are loads of comparison tables on the net, don't just take my word for it, SRF comes top of most!

ATE Racing Blue works well for me as James said the higher the boiling point the better, with "the higher the better" DOT number being less important

It also needs changing the most often too, aswell as being by far the most expensive.....

wet boiling point is actually a very important factor too

What about the AP fluid that comes with the BBK kit? More expensive lower/higher quality???? I could do with changing mine although the brakes are still great and as sharp as.

Motul rbf 600 gets my vote

Although we use a 5.1 cheap as chips fluid in our kids e30 325. Never skipped a beat and it stands on its nose all day long.
Mind you, it has standard discs, standard shit calipers and carbotech XP8's pads and braided hoses, it has been faultless on the brakes- just goes to show that the low weight plays a huge huge part.
