The fact that it couldn't do multitasking (introduced in iphone 4), it didn't have GPS, it had 2MP camera, it didn't have support for media cards (even today there isn't any) ? Windows mobile was doing everything that the iphone 1 was doing 3 years earlier (multitasking exists since the first windows mobile devices...). So the only thing that the iphone was much different (it's subjective if it was better in the iphone) is the interface look&feel and the device look. A lot of people loved it and it was/is a desirable device. A lot of people love the ipad for similar reasons which is respectable. But if you want to buy the best thing out there, this is not the ipad (imagine a CSL that only works with Shell v-power and no other petrol...or you can only fit Michelin CUP tyres and nothing else) |

Alex
How many phones did I have before the iPhone where the data and email was virtually impossible to set up or a company had tp do it. How many mobiles had small screens with poor usage and keypads instead of touch screens. How many could you download films onto for the kids to watch in the car, how many could my mum use as they were so obvious to operate, how many lasted 2 years without breaking ( my 2g is still going strong now after 3years) It makes me laugh how people diss the iPhone esp circa 2007 iPhone as if you laid the 2007 phones in a line thecrest would be comparatively prehistoric. Look at Wifi for example. The way it linked to a wifi and just asked for password was so refreshingly simple. Look at Apps, fecking superb and arguably iPhones best feature these days.Games by the 1000 or 10000 free and millions of other items if free soft ware. Battery life was reported as poor! Only because you can use it for everythIng from calls, email, calendar, music, games, photos, apps. If you use it 50% of the day battery is gonna suffer

Opened up a good discussion here.
I as due an upgrade lately there and couldn't get an iPhone4 for love nor money. In the end, I got a BB Torch, which I'd read up while I'd been away last trip. I was looking forward to getting into an iPhone, so to speak but I think that was more peer pressure than anything else. I've had BB's for the last 2 years and to be honest, couldn't be bothered learning another platform/menu system so stuck with BB. I remember being sat in a bar with a load of mates once and out of the 7 of us, 6 had iPhone and most of them were all sat playing on them. I respect the iPhone and it's capabilities but to go to a pub and sit beside someone playing games is a bit juvenile if you ask me. Maybe that's just my circle of friends mind you. The Torch seems to have move BB on again, thank god as the latest BB's before it weren't moving the game on. Anyway, back to yer man's iPad... |

The Missus has one and it's dead handy for surfing and music etc but the lack of flash is irritating. I've had all the generations of the iPhone except 3GS so am used to not having flash - doesn't mean I don't want it though!

shimmy, I don't know with which mobiles you are comparing iphone with, but I was comparing with smartphones.
Yes, I will agree that iphone has many games, it's stupid-proof etc BUT the simplicity it has also means lack of functionality. I never had any issues setting up my email client in windows mobile or blackberry phones but it might be me that I know a bit more about computers. As said, even today it doesn't support any multimedia card and it doesn't support flash etc. And the ipad needs it's own Apple-specific SIM card What a joke !!! |

Depends what you want out of a phone.
I wanted an easy to use phone with decent camera, good surfing capability etc I had a htc, it was good but for me a bit too slow, the iphone is just effortless for my needs. everything just flows. Browsing is far easier. Email was easy to set up, it suits my needs perfectly Written on my I phone 4 |
