Default Portable Sat Navs

After a bit of advice here.

Halfords are doing up to half price deals on Sat navs until Sunday and since Mrs Sailor has just got a new job as a Health Care Visitor, she'll be running about the doors a bit and mentioned to me that could do with one of these. I've got one already but it's a program within a PDA and is a bit overly complicated and if I'm being honest, probably not the best.

So, looking for any advice or input regarding some of the units on the market.
Seen these two after a quick swatch:
TomTo Heard these were the best, but that was a couple of years ago.
Navigon

Ideally, want one for Europe too so I can use it going to the Ring and any other wee road trips on the Continent.

Additionally, if anyone is selling one they don't need I may be interested,

Cheers all

I have a Garmin; missus has a TomTom.

I find the Garmin's touch screen much more user friendly & prefer it's screen display. The Garmin also lasts a lot longer on a full charge.

Both still take you down narrow lanes not fit for motor vehicles though

I've got a TomTom XL with the European stuff and with the HD Traffic (or whatever it is).

Works very well and has undoubtedly saved me from getting stuck in jams a few times.

Even without the subsrciption service (i.e. live traffic info) it's has the average speeds of roads at different times of day and works very well.

I've had a Garmin and it was crap! I tried using another one the other day and that was crap! Hate them, can't get on with them, sorry!

I own the new Tom Tom Go Live 710 or whatever it is, love it to bits and have got it all sync'd up with the iPhone etc, quality but of kit and also got it in a Halfords deal for £160 with a hard carry case!

Got the Tom Tom europe App on the iPhone, which is pretty average for directions, as rob / mole / tino and matt will vouch for

Mind you it did find that nice fast road in the end midway through germany

So although I paid £70 odd quid just for the app, I still use my old NavMan widescreen jobby which has never let me down.

Must be the same mapping / routing options on all Tom Tom's as my app, which I found shite always takes me on a wild goose chase, it;s like jeremy beadle is sitting inside directing me a comedy route everywhere

Thanks for all the input folks, much appreciated.

Stumbled across this yoke, what do you think?
As always with me - Ebay
I know it's refurbished but you get 12 months Warranty anyway and if it doesn't stop working in 12 months, it should be ok for longer no? I like the idea of the window mount being part of the unit so that when she takes it off and puts it in her bag when parking, there'll be no bracket left on the windscreen.
Opinions?

Use the Garmin 1690Live which after a healthy degree of scepticism owing to previous Tom Tom and Garmin units, i conceed is an ace bit of kit.
The live service interfaces with google search is a brillant function, especially when tyring to find places in Europe.
Also one of the few satnavs to have a processor quick enough to do the maps properly!!

As with all sat nav's though, don't bother with their camera services. Use the pocket GPS from here http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/
They even include the known bridges and gantries the police use, not just
camera locations.

Best
