Repair is fine and the position on the tyre is no problem either. It is just the sidewall you need to worry about.

I had a repair plug come out because it got hot and tyre deflated almost instantly - I never ever ever use repaired tyres on performance cars considering the way we drive them. It is the only part that contects your car to the road. I agree about leaving it in though, once the head has worn off, it won't come out easily because screws have a thread on them - if it was a nail I would advise otherwise.
