Default Difference between standard CSL alloys and Magnesium Cup alloys

Hi Guys, another stupid question

What's the difference? Guessing the Magnesium Cup wheels are a fair bit lighter, and therefore handling is improved.

Much difference in the real world?

yes much much lighter BUT the magnessium ones are a problem when wet, as they tend to fizz around the street and let off steam before disappearing

I believe that "magnesium cup wheels" are a figment of someones imagination, there is no such thing. (but this myth was somehow perpetuated, and people often mention them in ads etc)

CSL/cup wheels are lighter than normal wheels, but not magnesium.

No, I read the above as none of them are magnesium.

There are the "CSL" wheels, which are nice and light.

And there are the "CS" wheels (from the M3 CS) which are the same design but weigh about the same as the M3 OEM 19" wheels.

The CSL wheels are made from a lighter alloy, I believe the 'magnesuim' is a bit of a myth.

The CSL wheels are much lighter though, when I swapped my OEM 19" on my M3 for CSL wheels, I couldn't believe how much of a difference there was between them.

I think the term "cup wheels" just comes from the fact that the CSL came with the Cup tyres as standard, but you could spec M3 OEM 19" with PS2's as an option.

Doesn't help when owners of CSLs call them 'Cup wheels' in sale adverts.

Above is right, no such thing as a Cup wheel. There are Cup tyres, that it.

There is no mag wheel and the CSL wheels are in fact pretty heavy, not lightweight at all.

They are heavy - a real pain in the ass lugging a set all the way across to Germany!
