Default How did you search/find your csl?

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to the forum and taking my first steps towards csl ownership, by reading up and scouring the web for a potential purchase. I wonder whether any of you can share a smart way of finding a good car? Right now I'm just looking at Pistonheads and Autotrader - is there a club you recommend I join to get more of an inside track on cars that come on the market? Is there a UK dealer that has a good reputation reasonably prices and regular stock (the Hexagon prices seem ott)? I tend to think it's better buying privately as you can assess the previous owner as well as the car!

Many thanks

By far the best would be to buy a known car from an enthusiast. Preferably through CSL Reg as it's probably well known to members here and you can ask lots about it. Also float the details past Shimmy. If he has history details, good or bad he'll let you know.

here is a great place. most people know most of the cars as some of them have seen a few owners.

I found mine on here/pistonheads.

avoid traders that are just brokers and add a huge margin to a car they are just putting out there for someone and not prepping.

good time to be looking as some nice ones on here in the mid to late 20s in the 50 - 60k mileage.

depends on your budget and what you want. everyone on here is very helpful and knowledgable.

When you say 'on here'... I can't see any that are currently for sale -is that right? Ideally I'm hoping to find a <50k car in the low 30's

Best way to buy is QUICKLY before the wife gets to understand that it's not nice for her to drive.

I woke up on one Saturday morning in 2006, decided that I fancied a track road car, so looked up two CSLs on PH and drove to StAlbans then to near Stratford, nd bought one.

From thinking of the idea to buying took 4.5 hours.

Taking a bit longer to decide to sell

This is great advice. They are not nice for the wife to passenger in either.
So before you buy make sure it's described as a sensible family car. Ok it's a coupe but the front seats move back (sort of) and the rear seats fold and has a big boot.
Very practical.

Here is a good place to look. I bought mine this way.
Advantages were being able to talk everything through with an enthusiast owner, a wedge of warranty print-outs and receipts and I was also able to see the history of the car from posts on the forum.

A bit of honest track time and money spent is better than someone pretending it hasn't seen a track ever or not spent the money.

My wife loves driving mine, including on track and the Ring.... which is worrying for me when I'm in the passenger seat.
