Winter storage
Hi guys, just after a bit of advice on storage.
Do I need to attach a trickle charger over the winter? If so which one is best, and is it ok to lock the car with the boot lid open (to allow the wires in to the battery) or will this fook things up? I had a look in halfords today but the ones they stock look pants! Cheers guys Stu. |

Optimate mate
Quote:
I have always used 'Optimate' which cost about £40.00 'ish and have had my oldest one now for over 7/8 years & the other two for 4/5 years neither which has yet failed. Unless of course you set off out garage without dis-connecting ..doh. Fortunatley clips come apart so easy put back together. You can connect to battery in boot via crocodile tyrp clips on + & - terminals and just let wire run out trapping when bootlid is closed and lock up as normal. Therefore alarm stays 'live' and when you come to start it will fire up first time every time. Put one on your christmas list now |

I use a Ctek. Lead is perminantly connected with ring terminals onto the battery and a plug the other end. Then just plug the Ctek into that and as mentioned above, boot can be shut on the wires, locked car with alarm. No issues and perfect start everytime after being garaged for 2-3 months.

I leave mine for up to 7 weeks at a time, all year round and use a wee £40 Charger from Screwfix. I posted it up in the 'oi garage queens' thread. It was a panic buy and hasn't put a foot wrong in the 3 years I've owned it. Looking back though, I wish I'd been more prepared and got one of these CTek conditioners, going on all the good reports it's got.
Car is now away until April, maybe May depending on my work and the weather, so will see how she holds up over the winter. Welcome again by the way, Baz |
