As GOD Intended
i wonder what difference it would make if i was to drive a Stock CSL (maybe Cups and AP) against a modified CSL (diff, weight loss, 265 all round, coilovers, remap, pulleys) around track in know well like Spa, Snetterton or Donny?
Dya think there would be much difference in lap times? i have a PLAN

TBH
Don't think there will be, even with all bits don't think it's any quicker, just looks so much better on KWs / Supersprint as for the AP's they are a must couldn't do without them on track.

Hi,
Depends what you consider a 'difference' ? 2-3 secs at Spa might not sound like much to a lot of people, but in the real world it is, and if your car was say 2-3 secs a lap quicker in the CSL Cup series than anybody else's car, then subject to driver, it would be a one horse race. Different Tracks suit different set ups, so take a flying lap of the Ring 70 odd turns, so a correctly set up car saving fractions of seconds here and there soon mounts up, then go to somewhere like Coombe where those fractions still saved are a lot less, so the difference in times is far less. The excellent part of the standard CSL was that it was 'honed' on the Ring and therefore in standard form, Brakes aside, it is a very good on a Track straight out the box. Regards, The Gorilla. |

I posed the same question some time ago Shimmy, I have wondered the same thing, I drove my CSL standard at anglesey, I can say that I noticed no difference in stopping power, just that the brakes went off quicker. So for a super lap battle I think the standard brakes can cope, in a few lap battle then they will struggle. The power stuff ie, diff, zorsts, remaps etc I dont think will make any noticeable difference. Big weight loss will be the most considerable factor. I noticed that the standard suspension was great, but just lacked adjustability on the front shocks, and I noticed it tried to understeer more, you could alter your driving style to suit, but I think this could hinder you slightly. It would come down to what circuit ultimately, For instance your car vs standard car on cups@ spa with a trained racing driver, I think maybe 2 secs difference. The CSL in stock form is a great, great car and as a road car I think standard is by far the best set-up, it can be improved for track. BUT in the right hands a standard CSL is far better than us "amatuers" think. |

Think Shim was talking about his road going CSL !
Not racing or competing in the CSL cup where I agree seconds do count !! Quote:

Lawsy, you talk alot of sense for a mad scouser
I agree, the biggest differences I noticed this year I think was from the cars weight loss. But also a close second by the improvement in understeer (which could have also been a combination if the weight loss, rim stiffness and wider front rubber I might just do Donny and Spa in the BUFF!

I guess looking at the improvements this year I have made and better times it would be interesting to use the 4 years data I have to go back to stock and just see how much is the car and how much I have improved. Bedford and Snett would be the best gauges I guess even Donny and Spa I would be able to tell.

CSL would get in that and win at the moment quite easily i think in theory as the fastes qualification this year at Snetterton was 1m 24s whereas id hopefull be 1m 19s. Most cars in the TDT seem to be class C & D clios etc so nobody yet seems to have got the class A cars up to spec. Originally i think the series was gonna have a 10 year old minimum age whihc woul dhave meant to get class A and B you would have needed a modified car and rules do not really allow heavy modding BUT i was not really thinking of that for the poor old CSL - better to buy a n old banger and get in the middle BUT just wanted to know if and how much my driving has improved
