Default Bilstein PSS9??

Does anyone have any experience on the Bilstein PSS9 Coilover kits. A kit has come up cheap my way and lacking in performance & overall reviews.

I run Bilstein PSS9 They have been superseded by PPS10 which have larger knobs for easier adjustments. You we need to buy a set of adjustable top mounts to get the best from them.


I chose them because they are idiot proof & reliable

I have had mine on for nearly 3 years without any problems.

I think suspension gives you the best improvement on performance than any other mod per pound note spent.

I would buy them again, or Intrax’s

I had the pss9 kit on my csl and wouldn't touch a bilstein kit again if it was free, the rear springs don't fit tightly onto the adjustable mounts and as a result if you have the rear set fairly low the springs move about on the mount giving you a clunk when you pull out of junctions, if you didnt want the rear that low the springs would remain loaded and probably eliminate the problem.I bought a set of kw 3s from thorney and found the ride and build quality to be much better, also you can be supplied with settings that have been tried and tested and are known to work.

I know French member david runs them on his CSL and does a fair few track days in France and at the Ring and says good things about them.

Bilstein do different kits for the E46 model - the CSL has it's own specific set, presumably with optimised settings, as there is also a standard M3 kit.

Question :

If you were going to do track days and have the car set up at -1 degree on normal suspension, the tyres will wear out quicker, so is it worth sticking with the standard set up or

standard with adjustable top mounts - standard seems quite good

Change to after market suspension with adjustable mounts eg KW clubsport, Moton, or Intrax (does this have much more benefit that standard)

would road use be stiffer with the after market products or can they be set up to be soft and then changed for track.

Sorry my knowledge is limited with suspension, the only time Ive changed it was when I put a H&R coil over kit on one of my old BMW's. Yes the handling was improved but not for daily driving as it was very hard and only the ride height could be altered.

Well if David rates them they can't be that bad as that man can peddle.
