What does a failing Vanos sound like?
Just out of interest really, before the warranty expires as I might not renew it?
Is there a way of "testing" a Vanos unit, or is just down to an experienced ear?

I can run a Vanos test on your car if you want to bring it down here

It can also be an electrical failure. My vanos failed and it wasn't making any noises. It could be reset with an adaption procedure but it got progressively worse (more frequent). The solenoids appeared to pack it in, but I changed the whole unit. BMW UK no longer sell new units, only refurbed ones.
