Apart from all the correct casting on the face and inner spokes of the wheel, I find the best way to distinguish the genuine from the fakes is to check that it has dual tone paint. The back of the spokes and the outter drum is painted a different colour to the face itself. Also the earlier wheels have a slightly different drum casting to the newer manufactured wheels (an inner v indent band that runs the full circumference at about 1/3 from the face of the spokes).

Actually come to think of it I can't quite remember if it was the new style wheels that has that indent (must check again in the garage with the spare rims as I have both versions) ..
Anyway, the first batch of wheels that came out had a balancing issue that couldn't be cured - so a whole new design and batch was made - even with new part numbers. This isn't to say that the older style wheels are all bad, just some of them were. The old set I have is perfectly fine and have never had any balancing issues. Agreed ... |

Just bumping this back up as I recently noticed something I didn't before with the genuine CSL wheels ... looks like the newer production ones now have laser etched part numbers:
The two tone paint is still there and the V band on the inner drum I can now confirm is only on the old version of the rear wheels. |
