I think Lawsy says it all in this quote from another forum Vic.
Having seen a few "mapped" M3's, I would say mapping one is like turning it into a ticking bomb. The gains spouted are bullsheite too. The effects IMO are placebo more than actual results. My advice dont map an M3. I have customers who want their N/A engines mapped, I turn away money/profit and tell them its not worth it. The gains when done safely are not worth the cost, as they are minimal. |

Very good question Vic
Benefits are very small on a standard or even slightly modified car. A good tuner will get a couple of bhp extra and make it a little more progressive on the throttle. It can remove the limiter and make sport normall on. Down sides could be more if there is damage or warranty voided

Some N/A engines respond well to remaps in standard form.
The s54 is not really one of them. I am yet to find datalogging from standard to mapped cars that proves they work. Ask a well regarded tuner if you can datalog immediately before the map and immediately after. I guarantee they say it takes 500 miles for the effects of the map to really take place. But if they do a dyno run before and after, the after always shows big improvements instantly. Work that one out By datalogging I mean Performance box etc etc. |
