Default 70's 3.5 CSL Race Car Project

Hi everyone, this is my first post on here.

As in the title I have a slightly older CSL to most of your new shiny cars on here but I hope that some of you may be intrested/know lots about the original 70's cars.

The car has come out of the garage after around 25years as I finally feel its time to start work on it, I have a good friend who normally works on restoring Escorts to world class condition who will be doing the work.

A quick look at parts prices are as I expected very, very expensive. So.... Lets make it a race car!! In my opinion the motorsport cars look far better than the road 'batmobiles' and would be an absolute dream car

I'm not even sure were to start though, the car is in its new home, my mates workshops, being completley stripped ready for dipping.

I have most parts for fixing the body already but just how different were the works race cars of 74 and 75 to the road cars?? Im guessing the wide arches are fibreglass? Front splitter fibreglass? The engine is going to be the biggest decission, i know the race cars had the twin cam head and special injection, plus being bored out to 3.5 litre and revving to 9,000 rpm!! So whether I go down this route or get a 3.8 M5 engine im not sure...

Ultimatley the car needs its FIA HTP papers and so will be eligable for classic racing but I am not sure if this will be straight away or in a few years...

As i am sure you can tell, this is a very new project and I have no idea how much work will be involved, except that it will be a LOT!!! So I am after any ideas/ thoughts/ pictures/ facts/ prices/ usefull people/ parts etc that you may know or have heard of please

Any help will be very much appreciated

Tom

I can't wait to see the finished result. The batmobile is an awesome looking car and I would love to own one.

Look forward to seeing your progress

Hi,

Tomroche- Are you planning to build the car
to Grp A spec ie ''BatMobile'' or just your
own take ?

M88 6 pot with Kulgfischer fuel injection,
or S38 [e28 e34 M5 lump] with the Getrag
5 speed.

Reason I ask is that along with a colleague with
have a genuine Lightweight shell, with the
proper Grp 5 Alloy Arches etc and load of other stuff.

If that might be of interest, then please let me know.

Regards,

The Gorilla.

Hi,

Tomroach- The Shell and parts are all stored away,
right at the back as well, with lots of other clutter.

I will see if I can take some pics
somehow over the Christmas period.

Regards,

The Gorilla.

Haha thanks everyone, sorry couldnt make the pics any bigger

If anyone has any more pics/ technical info available i would be very intrested to have a look...

Gorilla.. Looking forward to the pics thanks.

Fitting a later engine would be cool, not to mention a LOT cheaper but the problem is that the car needs to gain its HTP once finished to be worth the money its cost to build. I imagine I will have an engine built for historic racing and an m5 engine available for track days
