Default Brake fluid type?

Hi Guys,

I am going down the BBK route at the moment and am interested to know what type of brake fluid people are using for road use and a few track days.

I know it may seem a silly question, but there seems to be many types of "racing" fluid available.

Castrol SRF is the best fluid in many peoples opinions. Just one tip, don't get too hung up on dot numbers - Castrol SRF is Dot 4 but has the highest boiling point out of all the fluids, which is essentially all that matters.

There are loads of comparison tables on the net, don't just take my word for it, SRF comes top of most!

ATE Racing Blue works well for me as James said the higher the boiling point the better, with "the higher the better" DOT number being less important

Thanks for the info guys.

I will have a look into ATE and motul.

I take it these will be ok if normal fluid has been used previously ie it will mix safely with any residue in the system?

Whn you change brand/type you need to make sure all the old stuff is out first
When bleeding brakes we empty the reservoir completely first to minimise the amount of old fluid to then get out.

motul rbf 660 is the latest top of the line motul stuff

You flush the system thru with new fluid, starting from the back calipers to the front... you can see the difference in colour between old and new....

It also needs changing the most often too, aswell as being by far the most expensive.....

wet boiling point is actually a very important factor too
