Default CSL Warranty

Hi Guys and Girls

Having visited the forum for sometime I have signed up today and joined the register!

Like many of you, selling my first CSL was a mistake and I have rectified this issue by having another.

As the car has been enjoyed over the last few years and was bought by me without a warranty I spent some time surfing last night at warranty options.

Warranty Direct seem to no longer do cover for any M3. The supermarket style warranties are not sufficient. However Warranty Wise have come up with the goods!

With Quentin Wilson's endorsement their approach to warranties seems to be very good in that they recognise the reputation warranty companies have and have created in my mind a unique selling proposition that is honest and represents good value for money.

Here is what I took out.
  • 12 month policy that covers anything electrical and mechanical up to the value of the car.
  • Excess (voluntary) is £50
  • Mileage of car is irrelevant
  • You can make a claim the day after the policy starts. Many companies like 1-3 months before you can claim. Only exception is that they will not cover a wear item like a clutch failing in the first 30 days.
  • They do not have a beterment clause where some companies want you to contribute if you for example get a new gearbox on a car that had 90000 miles and was therefore better than the tired one you had
  • You can set the labour rate and the policy premium reflects this. I went for £60 per hour which should be enough for a good independent
  • The cost is £552 per annum with an option to pay it interest free over 3 months.
To me it's a cracking deal and gives me peace of mind as I would hate to shell out for an engine, clutch, gearbox etc.

I remember the BMW policy on my last car was circa £1000 so this should be a good alternative especially for those of us buying cars without warranties and the option of buying a policy from a dealer is prohibitevely expensive.

I am not trying to promote the company but feel that if I have had good service or find a good product that may benefit others it is worth sharing the news.

Very informative first post, most tend to just say "Hi, ive bought myself a csl, blah de blah, de blah, heres some pics". Your first post sounds like quentin wilson's column in the sunday rag

Call me a cynical but warranty/insurance can only be judged how good, when you have to claim. Let us know how good it is when your gearbox drops into 2nd on its own at 110mph and your engine eats itself and spits itself out the side of the block.

Running a garage, I have had customers with warrantywise that have had genuine claims knocked back etc etc.

Go BMW for peace of mind £300 pa more - heard anecdotal stories (poor) about some warranty firms.....just my two cents but you get what you pay for IMHO

Lawsy is right about a warranty being deemed a good one, only after you've made a successful claim. Seems good value and I hope they live up to your recommendations, should you need to claim

Welcome matey.I went with bmw warranty, but i guess any warranty is better than no warranty.I met a stock e46 m3 owner last week who needed a new gearbox, his m3 was on 80k miles,he had no warranty.Bmw wanted £4500 for a new one.

Default CSL warranty

Thanks Guys

I accept your views and only hope that if something happens they do pay up.

I have an old CLK 430 cab which I took out a warranty on with Warranty Direct and discussed in detail with the sales person what I wanted. I took out the policy and sods law nothing failed for 20 months but then the seat motor failed and I made a claim only to be told it was not covered!! Fortunately they record all their calls and traced my call through their systems and played back the tape. By pure chance I used a seat motor failure as an example of something that could fail in the original sales call and I left the coversation believing I was covered. Their head of claims listened to the tape and while stating that the part was technically not covered they actually paid up as they understood I believed I was covered. Fair play I thought!

I bust my back 13 years ago and use hand controls to drive with. I loved my last CSL but found the seats were OK but not great and the brakes were poor. My new one has full recaros, KW suspension and AP brakes so now looking forward to the change.

Knockhill is my local circuit but love trips down to Oulton Park, well worth the distance.

Regards

J

Welcome matey, Speaking from experience the CSL is a very capable car for thoughs who are little bit limited. There's a quite few of us on here.

Even mentally disturbed people like Duncan, can drive them

Welcome EdinburghCSL
I have had other warrantys j and found out the hard way nothing is covered
I would recomend BMW warranty as it covers all of the car bar trim parts

After the last claim on my CSL repair bill was £24,800 and bmw sorted it
