Am not precious about CSLs. I think they're great cars but there are some better and some worse. I've had some great laughs cornering "at speed" in my old 205 Gti. I just don't buy the straight line speed arguement unless you are at a vmax event (which doesn't appeal to me at all). Useless quality on a public road with the cameras / rozzers which leaves trackdays, which let's be fair, there are better options than an M6.....and no, I don't neccesarily mean CSL
I think my depreciation view still stands. The M6 is a mega but strikes me (from reading forums) as a technically complicated car...which is great new and warrantied but I believe a less attractive proposition to the used car buyer in the future as they fall into the hands of people who won't maintain them correctly...could see gtr going the same way for example.
Lower numbers, less complicated, smaller capacity engine, probably more enthusiast owned examples etc will probably mean the CSL will shit less of it's value which was the original basis of the question.

i can't see CSL losing much so yeah - a sound investment.
People go on about how many cameras are there but let's be honest here;
1. CSL is a fast car. 355BHP in a 1420kg will always be fast. I saw CSLs going at stupid speeds on public roads. If anything, i'd say M6 might be more fun because you reach 0 - 124mph in 12.8 seconds and slow down sooner. It takes 0 - 124 17.8 seconds in CSL to reach that speed.
2. Taking corners fast on public roads? just as dangerous
3. Trackdays are expensive.
4. There always is a compromise so a 2 - car scenario (M6 and CSL) would be a perfect combination.
5. M6 serves a totally different purpose which is evident from the very first time when you seat behind the wheel.
M6 - Comfortable, quiet, good B Road handling, HUD and 500BHP V10 sound
CSL - tape deck, poor quality audio (can't hear radio properly @ 90mph) fixed seat position, not comparable to M6 comfort on any level, loud but somewhat... it appeals more to certain people and am fine with that. It's that raw feeling i guess, the awesome induction sound, the metalic exhaust sound.
I guess what i am trying to say is that CSL and M6 DO NOT compare. Apples to oranges.
.... but, i have seen one M6 sold @ £14k on auction.
Fit top of the range Motons, Swap seats to BMW Performance and wheels to BBS FI (the lightweight 7.7kg found on Ferrari 599) Brembo brakes.
Acrapovic full exhaust... 530bhp guaranteed.
Michelin cups tyres
You end up with a car which could make it feel much more RAW. It'd be faster, louder (in a good way) and all for £35K... which some like Nick Johnson ask for a CSL (low milage)
