Its hard to explain but it sounds like the noise the cams make if it ran without oil and its also coming from the top of the motor.

If it doesnt come with the new engine, they didnt change it. They only replaced fanbelts and airfilter... And it was my local BMW dealer that did it.

No, they took out old engine and put in a new one, I dont think they checked anything else....

I dont know if they previous owner did a chip at some point, can it be the cause?

So Ive done about 300km's on the new engine, not going past 4000rpm, and this weekend the same engine noise returned as before they replaced it, WTF??? Sounds like vanos at low revs and at 3500rpm...

So my new engine arrived and it will probably be in the car in 2days time, BUT how do I know its a CSL engine and not just a normal M3 engine?? They did order it off the chassis number(so they say)...
