Finding a rattle

So for the last few months I have had two rattles that I can't find and solve. So today I though I'd spend seem time in the garage and see what could be done, emanwhile I could check the brakes, swap of the wheels and give the inside a Hoover.

First I put my 10 year old in the car and spent 20mins driving around Hertfordshire to see if she could locate the noises. Eventually after she complained of feeling sick (15mins in the footwell at 70mph didn't help) I came back and got to work.

First the passenger door card was removed and I taped up the leads in the door which were taping against he CF skin. One done. Ony one door skin clip damaged :)

Second was the noise which see sped to be coming form the wheel arch and seemed suspension related or something metal anyway. It was very sporadic and didn't happen very often so it took some time to get it to chirp up. Removed the passenger front wheel and played around a bit and eventually made the sound by taping at the stone guard. twang........... It was still partially held by the bolt at the bottom and the tow others but one was rusted and every now and them would come loose and make a sound. I had similar issues (vpbut very different sounds) with the drivers side 6 months ago and applied the same solutions. Removed the bolt and put a large washer under it then repeated this with the two other fixing pints for futureproofing. Solid as a rock. I would recommend you all take a look at the 3 fixing points for the front stone guards and see if they have rusted around the screw/bolt position. Ideally best solution would be to replace the whole guard when and if you ever get new front bearings (had mine 70k miles and would have been ideal tiem to do it.)

After checking brakes and Putting on Volks/Cups I made my way to the back of the car and decided to have a go at my exhaust which was making a little rattle when cold and has hung a little crooked. jacked her up nd put it on axle stands and had a good root around at the back. I released the Supersprint rear box bolts that allowed me to rotate on set of back pipes so the box at least hug even. I then noticed that both welded straps that connect the two tail pipes on one side had snapped and were obviously touching and making a noise so I prized them apart until I could get a welder to fix them again. (crappy Italian welding). Checked the look of the back box, gave it a polish with metal cleaner and checks all 3 rear box rubbers and mounts (no worries as I guess e lighter SS box doesn't put as much tress on the crappy rubber mounts)

So all done, now back watching Chelsea win the Premiership !

"What did you do on your summer holiday" teacher asks class, "my dad made me sit in the front foot well of his car until I felt sick" :-D

At Least it wasn't in the boot, Sarah has been for a short journey in the boot:hahaha:
