Electrical gremlins...

Afternoon all,

couple of little gremlins appearing, and wondered whether they're linked...

1. EML light is appearing intermittently, putting the car into limp mode. Ignitition on and off a couple of times normally sorts it.

2. Recently replaced the battery and had no issues. Drove a couple of hours (100 or so miles) on Saturday parked up and the car wouldn't lock. GOt back in, started the car and the clock and trip had reset, as though battery had been disconnected. Car started and then locked fine.

3. Car has 'stalled' a couple of times when manoeuvering at slow speed (once parking, once in stop start traffic on the motorway)

4. Got in the car the other day, turned ignition to 'electrical on' point. Xenons came on, despite switch being 'off'. Cycled switch (i.e. on then off) and they went off...

Anyone got any thoughts as to whether they're connected? I'm guessing not, but you never know!

Sounds strange not seen that before
Best bet would be get it pluged in to bmws machine and see if it finds any faults

First i would reconnect the battery again to check it is clamped and connected and not occasionally loose.

Alternator on its way out.

Battery earth problem or alternator is failing. Next stop is check charging, the alternator has probably taken the battery out at a guess thats why it failed.

I'd also be concerned about covering only 100 miles in 2 hours - you should get your right foot checked at the docs mate ;)

Hope all well

Haha, bloody bank holiday traffic!

All good otherwise though!

Thanks all, off to BMW for it then, see what comes back.

also worth checking the earth strap from the engine to the chassis....it is under the car on the right hand side attaches from the engine to the front chassis leg...these can corrode or come disconnected...worth a quick look...
