Over 60k Miles, what gives?
Just reading another thread on BMW's Warranty and have seen again that the price of the warranty shoots up at 60,000 miles (unless you're on the direct debit i think ).
Just wondering why this is. I know that many parts will be designed for a certain life period, so i can only assume that BMW know that something failry major has a life of about 60,000 miles For those who are over 60,000 miles, what kinds of issues have you had? is there a recurring theme? Living in London, £1,000 for a the comp warranty is worth it, as the CSL does seem to throw up little niggles and labour rates are :eeek: , but i'm not sure whether £2,200 odd would be worth it. |
Just law of averages and probability, they have to draw a line somewhere.
Items are more likely to fail after 60k, although that being said there is no exact mileage. Some engines fail at 100k, some at 30k, there are so many variables to consider. So 60k seems a good middle ground figure to me. And tbh, I wonder how BMW/Mondial can haemorrhage so much money on these warranties. I dont think it will last forever |
I know of a car with 85k+ goes like a dream no problems.

Mine is 66k. I've owned it since 32k.
No major warranty in previous owners but here's the list: Sill/door shut strips Side indicators A coolant pipe (don't know which) Airbox flap In my ownership: Clutch/flywheel CD/radio unit Airbox flap twice! Now flapless Drivers side and passenger side sliding seat frame That's it. Guess mine wasn't built on a Friday afternoon. As a result I haven't had warranty for couple of years now and nothing major yet. Only issues have been with after market stuff and a slightly sensitive passenger side airbag curtain! Don't ask! |
