Warranty - Level of cover

Hello

My BMW warranty runs out soon, rather than renew at Comprehensive straight away ( we're living in frugal Britain now after all) I thought I'd ask for some advice. What sort of cover do you chaps have with BMW? Comp, Named Component, Driveline? There's roughly £300 difference between the top level and the low level, so it's quite a saving.

Any opinions/advice/experience/rants would be appreciated.

Driveline is a false economy I think as it only covers to Max £5k, which wouldn't cover an engine for example, and it's not that much cheaper.

I've got Named Components and wish I'd taken out the Comp warranty, since I've had a fair bit of stuff this first year of ownership that Named Components didn't cover (sticking caliper; diff oil seal leaks; a ball joint, RTABs).

For anyone who's just bought a car, I reckon Comp is worthwhile for the first year at least so you can be sure that any stuff that appears due to the car's previous life gets sorted at minimal cost.

Then after that you can base it more on your own risk assessment and any amount you've spent on preventative maintenance.

Named

Def not driveline

When BMWs (CSL included) breach the 60K miles barrier there is no point (IMHO) having Fully Comp cover as most things which are usually covered under the F.C. warranty are excluded (due to the 60K + mileage) like suspension, interior trim, etc.
Named Components Warranty has been very fruitful for me & my 60K + CSL  in the last 18 months

I have comprehensive and just at the moment it is worth its weight in gold :smokin:
not sure what would have been covered under named as it didnt enter my head to look at it, maybe an option if Shimmy and Matt have done well with it

Also it's worth switching to monthly payments (if you've not done so already) as that will freeze the price of your Warranty payments  avoiding future price hikes.

although it limits your total lifetime policy (rather than annual policy) claim to the cost you paid for your car so dont blow up two engines;)
