Aftermarket seats

Im getting some aftermarket recaro seats for my m3.

What bases, sidemounts etc should I get, id prefer sliding tbh as when on track i sit far closer to steering wheel, than when cruising on road.

Will I need both the side mounts and bases for sliding option or just bases. And where is best to get them.

Help appreciated

ive got recaro profi spg XL drivers seat

you need the seat, recaro side mounts (silver or black), recaro runner and a base mount converter

ive got all the codes somewhere if you need them

best base mount converter we found with Simpsons was the VAC one

https://store.nexternal.com/shared/S...ductdetail.asp

available in silver or black, normal or long lengths

I take it this is if i want it to slide, if its fixed do i just bolt the side mounts to the floor?

no, the bolt positions on the floor of the E46 M3 and CSL dont match the recaro seats so like with most cars you have to convert the positions by having a plate between the two.

Forthe first year i didnt fit my runner as i wanted to get the seat as low as possible and make the best use of my 'body ballast':hahaha: but i still needed the VAC Mount.

I fitted the runner this year arfet realising nobody else could drive the car including my wife, friends or Julian at Simpons so you put the runner between the seat and VAC mount.

Any idea on costings for the mounts, runner, and vac mounts.

Thanks

bought mine in 2008 april and costs (exc vat) as follows from Montgometry Motorsport (supply only, advised cheapest place) and Simpson fitted them

Recaro Profi SPG XL (070.86.057) = £400
Recaro universal runner (364954) = £35
Recaro side mounts (7207000 aluminium) = £35
VAC long mounts (black) = £135

Simpsons labour around £100

Twas a good price.....

Though I'm sure you could get VAC-style mounts made for less... just need a few measurements.

You'll be wanting to read this mate.

Usually get universal sliders off ebay for £15-20.

There's the proper Recaro subframe I mentioned for the E46 which is similar to the CSL one, but it's mega bucks.

all sounds great Windy if you want to save a few pennies but tbh i wont buy anything off ebay that is of a life safety nature.

the recaro and vac stuff is tested and certified, not sure about your ebay stuff

if you look at Thorneys car when it hit the wall. his seat gave way on the side mounts so imagine the forces that go through these on impact;)

Simpsons used to make their own base mounts but thye were heavier an di think they just thought a proprietry product was more reliable
