The CSL design.

The CSL, along with the E30 M3 and M1 are arguably the best M cars ever made.

In your opinion and experience with ownership of the car (as it approaches 15 years old) is there anything you would have changed in the weight saving or cosmetic department.?:smokin:

Cheers.

Interesting topic, and while i really love the csl i think they should have kept it as uncompromising as the prototype version.

What springs to mind:
- No Rear Seats but half cage
- Lightweight 18" wheels
- Functional Diffusor
- Brake Cooling Ducts

But other than that its perfect :smt055

Wonder if the designers were tempted to make the bootlid carbon fibre?

Bigger brakes
Seats with harness cut outs
Option of a half rear cage with rear seat delete
Option of manual

Not that i know of, why do you wonder?
I think the goal was to give the car a 50/50 balance so they didnt need to make it out of carbon. Plus they could fiddle with their thermoplast and see if its production car ready. (turned out it wasn't, they had huge problems with it back then ;) )

Decent callipers - job done.

Brakes might be okay for a flying lap of the 'ring, but like all M cars with big heat soak of a cast sliding calliper, the brakes are dire on track.

Of the 3, the E30 (for me) was near perfect.

The M1 needed bigger/better brakes, was a little heavy & deserved better seats.

The CSL - as others have said, better brakes, manual or better SMG, better seats, roll cage option
