Help / Advice please, DSC & ABS Failed?

Hi All,

This evening whilst driving my CSL I got a random beep from the dash and the DSC light and ABS (Handbrake?) light lit up Orange and stayed on, I was only doing around 5mph sat in traffic when it did it so was quiet suprised!

I've tried turning the DSC back ON and it's not having it and whether or not it's a placebo effect thing I don't think the brakes feel as sharp as usual?

Does anyone know what the cause is, I'm thinking along the lines of a Relay or Sensor somewhere as the rest of the car performs as good as usual :thumbs:but which one and more importantly how much!? :bigcry:

Thanks

Hi Dan,could be a Wheel speed sensor[ABS] or Steering angle sensor, you will need to take it to a dealer and get it plugged in.;)

Look anything like my pic below Dan?

This was mine recently and it turned out to be the stator on the rear drive shaft had gone tit$ up and destroyed the ABS / wheel speed sensor.

Hi Guys,

Mine is the DSC light permanently ON in the centre of the dash and the Handbrake light (red, in your pic), permanently on in Orange on my dash, no other lights, all others out as usual so probably something similar then!

Also, Murkett's still the place to go, reading a few threads on the dealers here this evening?

Have you checked your brake fluid level?

Dan 26-09-2011 09:09 PM

No I've not done as yet Shane, it did cross my mind!

I still reckon possible brake fluid low.

Also open bonnet and check switch. Then slam it shut.

You get those lights if you dont post for 2 months.:hahaha:

I had similar for a failed steering angle sensor from memory but don't have a documented photo history of every warning light ever so might be wrong...

Get a GT1 on it and all will be revealed.

Yep seen that before with these lights, BMW wanted to replace the steering angle sensor, but we just reset it and it has been fine since.

I was thinking about bonnet problem too, is there a specific switch to check mate?

DSC Pressure sensor (one of the two on the brake master cylinder).

Basically measures brake pressure - most likely the one closer to the firewall that's failed (the bitch one to take out).

If you plug it in the GT1 one sensor will show pressure whilst the other show 0psi

I had the same problem before 4 months. Same lights on the dash.
Gt1 didn't recognize any fault. Just reset them and everything is ok since then!

Thanks Tom, it'll more than likely be a warranty job if anything gets replaced so should save me the hassle.

How did you reset it Manos, using the GT1 I assume?
