Cheap CSL...

Or is all not what it seems?

http://www.jamesglen.co.uk/used-cars...01108380470602

Given the lowish miles, I'd have thought this might be up for more non?

Just being nosey like.

Johnnywb 09-03-2011 08:21 AM

Does seem a little low?

Would have thought it would be advertised a bit higher.

Great Pretender 09-03-2011 08:26 AM

Indeed.

Certainly looks clean.

Hope prices aren't taking a dive!

outnumbered 09-03-2011 08:43 AM

Doesn't seem too far out of whack to me... nearly £26K for a 50K miler.

No I was just thinking the same, there's plenty of cheaper ones on Pistonheads at the mo... I'd say thats an average price...

sailorbaz 09-03-2011 08:53 AM

Looks like a nice, clean car. Someone has spent a long time over those PIPES!

glendog74 09-03-2011 08:58 AM

Seems priced about right to me.

The owner is on here and hasn't had it that long. He was enthusing about it in his posts...

Great Pretender 09-03-2011 09:18 AM

Oh well,

Maybe I'm just being overly optimistic with the values.

E30M3SE 09-03-2011 10:36 AM

I saw this ad yesterday, thought it was about where they are for the miles, 6.5hr journey from HQ though.:smt090

What sort of mileage/price/spec are you looking for?

Paaahhh get it done!! 6.5hrs is nothing if the cars what you want ;)

Road trips are ace :bigcry:

E30M3SE 09-03-2011 10:48 AM

Approx the £25K mark, (although there is a px to complicate matter, but this is currently advertised privately, hopefully will sell privately), 50-60K miles SG preferred but would not say no to CB, spec wise Climate/Xenon's/PDC etc would be nice, but flexible on this if the rest of the car/deal is right.

That is 6.5 hrs each way, it would need to be exactly as described to make that journey.......................................

You wont get sympathy from him, on the weekend he drove over 10 hours each way for the trackday at Snetterton!

If you think it's the right car 6.5 hours is nothing :smokin:

Exactly and on the Tuesday of the same week i picked up a car from Hull and drove the 7hrs one way back to Aberdeen.

If it's what your after go for it.
Call the guy, explain the situation with travel etc and tell him you are happy to place a "refundable" deposit on the car providing it is exactly as described.
If he has nothing to hide he will agree. If he says no then walk away and find another.

Oh the weekend trip to Snetterton seen over 1500miles on the CSL :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: :hahaha:

Spot on, let's remember that these are rare cars so you will need to travel. It's not a run of the mill common as muck 3 series at the end of the day...

Don't be so lazy :hahaha:

I live near Penzance in Cornwall and travelled to North Yorkshire to view one (7 hours each way) as well as several trips to and around the London/North London areas (6 hours each way).

In the end i bought my car from a private seller in North London. If it looks a good car then you have to make the effort ;)

That's not too far to go for a car at all! And if you really can't face driving fly! That'll be about mid-way between either Glasgow or Edinburgh. I'm sure for a car of that value the dealer will pick you up? I've travelled easily those sort of distances for far lesser cars than a CSL in the past.

But that's nothing compared to the chap who flew all the way from Nigeria to buy this car from me here in Shropshire once...seriously! Scottish chap who turned up as agreed and then drove straight on to Aberdeen in it!

Amazing that any email with the word Nigeria in it actually gets through anyone's spam filter these days.

You post on PH as well don't you, as I've seen your website before, and that seems the most likely place. Is your CSL a keeper or just passing through ?

Well yes....that's what I thought when he sent the email from Nigeria initially...and then wanted my bank details to pay the deposit! LOL! But when I declined that he duly got his brother to send a U.K check from Aberdeen immediately and then turned up himself on the button!

Yes that's right!

No, CSL is a keeper for the foreseeable future...I waited so long to get one! After nearly 30 years of unbroken BMW ownership I think I've finally got a collection together that I'm happy with. May be forced into splitting it up once kid's university costs kick in though! :bigcry:

I've got one more older Mercedes project on the go at the moment (having just sold the black Mercedes 190E in the Gallery section of my website) which I'll probably end up keeping as my daily driver and then that's it me done with older cars. They just take too much time and effort for little or no return. I'll keep the 3 BMWs as garage queens and we've also got a couple of E39 Tourings as daily hacks as well.

Am prepared to travel, but of late whenever I have travelled any sort of distance the car has not been as described, infact some have been out and out dogs, and they are always at dealers.

Last year looking for a little run around, £5-6K not massive money, spent probably 10-12hr travelling around looking at various cars everyone of them was tatty at best dog ruff at worst found one in the end 6 miles from home from a private seller.

As I said previously,
"That is 6.5 hrs each way, it would need to be exactly as described to make that journey......................................."

glendog74 09-03-2011 04:58 PM

I viewed 10 different CSLs before finding mine.

I know...it can be very frustrating.

Many years ago my wife and I travelled a long way to view a 2002tii. We didn't have very much money at all back then and even the journey costs hurt us. I'd discussed the car with the vendor on the phone and he assured me there was only one scratch on the bonnet.

When we got there the car was literally a shed! Loads of mouldy crap and parts stored inside the car which had a broken, open sunroof exposing everything to the elements. The exterior was just as awful.

What he'd failed to mention was that the "small scratch on the bonnet" consisted of the inscription, in 12" high letters, actually spelt:

CUNT

I was inclined to agree with the author and just about managed to leave without punching the vendor's face in!:smt076

Would you go as far was Welwyn Garden City

dr.sticky 09-03-2011 07:06 PM

Picked up a RenaultSport Spider from Nutley Sports in East Sussex, a year later I was in Sussex again at Dream Machines for a TVR T350t and last year it was a trip to Nick Johnson in Oxfordshire for the CSL. The best part of each trip has been the drive back up to Morayshire, ( 500 miles + ) avoiding as much motorway as possible. :hahaha:

Mind you the worst bit was the wallet bashing on the fuel front, and looking like a tit driving the Spider (which has no roof what so ever ) through heavy rain as the sun went down on the M6 :banghead:

Its just the way when you're looking for low volume motors, good luck with the hunting. ;)

Hi Guys,

after viewing my web stats this week and noticed there was 102 views from the CSLreg I thought there must have been a thread like this lurking somewhere!

I originally had the car advertised for more, but once I seen a GT3 in the spec I wanted, dropped it to 25785 and had at least 5 enquires within 48hrs one of which resulted in a sale soon after. It was advertised in total for less than two weeks.

I will probably return at one point as they are superb cars, but just have to have a GT3 to get it out my system.

I had a fair stash of cash saved up and it was gonig to end up being spent on the CSL! I'm murder like that! So, ended up investing (car I use that word with cars!?) it in a another car instead.

Great Forum gents - one of the best and surprizingly busy for the small amount of CSLs there are out there.

All the best,
Stevie
