Windowlicker 21-03-2009 12:49 PM

No doubt she sounds rude, but whats with " i have just slid some stainless exhauust trims over my pipes " look , could they not have finished them properly , removing the gap all round the base.
That looks a bit after thought ish.Surprised to see tthat to be honest.
Other than that, she looks quite rude.

I think that you're missing the point fellas...

The back box that Daz has fitted is Supersprint's racing lightweight box and it's just a tad lighter than OEM and indeed their own CSL racing back box. If you compare it to Supersprint's other design you will see what i mean - minimalist approach - no uneccessary metal!

SMD 21-03-2009 03:31 PM

So Daz has the left box fitted (the loud one)?

DazBlackCSL 21-03-2009 07:45 PM

Yeah thats the one rob, on the left, was actually very light when I picked up the whole lot compared to the OEM one.

Think it got a little nosier this afternoon  .. did give it a bloody good spanking today tho ... not sure what is running at , but it is quicker without question just pulls a lot harder than before:smokin:

Will get the vids up tom PM if I can get someone out with me to take it ... as it sounds the nuts, to be honest the pipes just look a bit more purposeful IMHO and you dont really notice the inners at warp speed !! :smt047:smt047

Some more from this arvo ...

If its a minimalist race unit with no extra fat.....why have trims on it at all, why are'nt the exits from the backbox just that, 80mm round stainless tubes exiting the cylindrical chamber, they dont need conical inners that dont fit properly to be there at all.
Just a bit surprised like i say, a bit half finished in my opinion.

houlbt 21-03-2009 11:20 PM

Looks good Daz... glad you're pleased with it. I've had this exhaust (the race one on the left) on my car for a couple of years now.

What's interesting though is that my pipes don't have that twin rim look to each exit pipe like yours seem to have . I'm at a loss as to why that is and figure they must have altered the build process somehow.

As Daz says it is considerably lighter than an OEM exhaust (and also their other spec road version) but there is no doubt that it was still designed with the road driving public in mind if only by virtue of the fact it has 4 exit pipes.

A true race spec exhaust (say like the one BMsport has made for E46 racers) needs only a single silencer ... i.e. it's missing the extension and silencer box for the right hand side as you look at the rear of your car. Trouble is though I don't think many road going CSL/M3 drivers would like that look

houlbt 21-03-2009 11:27 PM

I'm getting my car measured up for a new exhaust by the guy that makes our race ones... as and when I do I might sell my SS - will put it on here if I do.

Might take a little while to get around to it but I'd wait and see what the replacement look like on my car before you rush off and buy a new Supersprint (if you're that patient)

glendog74 21-03-2009 11:32 PM

Cool

Jay55 21-03-2009 11:39 PM

Daz I sure hope you clean the car before i turn up next week:blalalala:

SMD 22-03-2009 12:03 AM

Got to say Daz, one of the best looking on here with the wheels ride height etc!:smokin:

Look forward to the pics after Jay has worked his magic!

But then again it is Black.........:smt063

Bealo 22-03-2009 12:16 AM

By looking at how small the rear box is i bet it'd bloody loud

Alright Alright !!! :smt044

houlbt 22-03-2009 04:44 PM

So I had a look at my backbox today... it is the same as Daz's in so much as there is an inner sleeve to the rear pipes. Not that you can see it once they've done a few miles. Will post a few pics of my poor old shed up later.

Is the BMSport race exhaust OK for trackdays or is it too loud? Assume it allows plenty of space for a proper diffuser - idea on the weight? Any pics?

Suspect it will be touch and go for trackdays but certainly no more so than the Supersprint Race. We were talking about options for this today with the fabricator.

It runs straight back yes so allows good space for a proper diffuser and weighs in at less than any aftermkt solution currently on the mkt. I can also get it made in titanium like I have on my race car if that floats your boat.

_Nathan_ 22-03-2009 10:23 PM

Can you please keep me informed on developments. Does it go from cat back or centre pipe back?

rstoughy 22-03-2009 11:36 PM

Daz,

Any idea how this back box will fair on the noise checks at track days?

Really like the look of that and if it does something for the performance then its a winner all round.

Only concern i have is that it would fail the checks at a track.

My next one is Croft @ 98db strict

BTW
car looks stunning :smokin: they just look so good dirty

AlexGTT 23-03-2009 01:41 AM

Just for interest, std back box weight is 25kgs.:bigcry: SS lightweight race back box is 10kgs, weighed with wrapping/packaging, so saves at least 15kg's. That's the reason I have one. :smokin: Noise is very nice in combination with silenced SS centre section, which I'm currently running. Fairly sure most trackdays wouldn't be a problem with mine.

I found it not to my taste with 100 cell cats though but I'm sure some would love it.

Bealo 23-03-2009 01:58 AM

Is everyone anti Miltek all of a sudden???

I hope when i get to see and hear a SS that i will NEED to change from the Milltek

At the minute i'm happy with the Miltek..
