track day tyres

i have tried cup2s and R888R for the standard CSL wheels and I much prefer the R888R. After 4 track days the grip is still consistent and it is less affected by heat cycles. This includes a scorching bedford day tuesday past.

Can anyone suggest where to start looking for replacements? I like to buy them ahead of time .. :)

Tx

Id go Ar1 or Dunlop 03G. But not sure if they do 19 inch

khooni 30-08-2019 01:29 PM

AR 1 is found in 19 but the rear is 265/35/R19 instead of 263/30/R19

NS2R still doesn't have R19s

DZ03G also not found in R19

Would love someone to try the accelera 651 sport semi slicks
They are cheap as chips but are raved about in the drifting scene.
Csl sizes are £300 a set.

khooni 30-08-2019 02:30 PM

certainly seems cheap. less than half the cost of R888R

won't last as long but will it grip as well?

btw is tyreleader still a good place to buy. they have the cheapest R888R due to different load rating. 89 for the rears which are in line with the original cups

Another tyre worth looking into is the Advan AD08R.
Its a bit more expensive than the R888R but alot more capable in the wet and not as sensitive to tyre pressures. Grip wise in the dry the R888R is a bit better but it will wear out quicker from what i was told.

So for me if you dont have a dedicated set of trackday wheels i wouldnt go for the R888R.

khooni 31-08-2019 09:47 AM

Tx Julian. I do have dedicated OEM CSL trackday wheels unfortunately or I would have gone 18". R888R for me have been the last 4 trackdays quite consistent. I know I've heard they heat cycle out quick but that was my experience with Cup2s not to mention less grip. I've also heard good things re AD08R and RS.

I also use the AD08Rs on my S2000 and love them :supz:.

I know 2 guys running the AD08 on track M3s and are very happy.

After nearly 7 years of cup 1's and 2's on 19's i have gone 18" square set up running dunlop derezas 265/35/18's.

they're not cheap at over £300 a corner but they feel super grippy.

Off to the ring this weekend......

weather looks dodgy but fingers crossed

rstoughy 27-09-2019 06:38 AM

Awesome tyre. Use them on the race car.

Was possibly riding shotgun to the ring but just got back onshore yesterday so going to have to give it a miss. You are right about the weather....not looking ideal.

Have fun anyways mate and keep it safe

I'll be back next year if we are still allowed over to Europe :bigcry::bigcry: :hahaha:

monkeycsl 27-09-2019 06:15 PM

Hi Peeps

DN22 was almost a complete wash out. Managed 3 dry laps.

Decided to go to the circuit days event at Spa on the Wednesday in the hope of a cancellation.

Unfortunately no slots were available but it rained for most of the day anyway so for once money saved!!

Will post some pics when i can.

if i went 18s and square setup, will my alignment be out of whack (ie rubbing)?

what alloys recommended?

I'm think APex or 2forged 18X9.5 et 22 or 35.. my understanding from the fitment guide is you need 3 degrees of camber to use et35. anyone using that for a track car that needs to be driven to the track?

The rolling radius of 265/30 x 19 and 265/35 x 18 is practically the same, so no changes to alignment needed on the rear. There is under 14mm circumference difference compare to a 235/35 x 19, so again, negligible difference.

khooni 11-08-2021 12:57 PM

tx

just ordered 265/35 /18 with ET 35 offset square and looking forward to Monday

khooni 19-08-2021 01:12 PM

the square setup is great on track. so much more grip that it transforms the cornering speeds. Maybe the nankang AR-1s helped too...

I'm well chuffed. going to start timing again to see the improvements as I haven't been timing for 2 years. head in the sand mentality so I'm not stressed about lap times.

anyways, there was so much pickup at silverstone that the left front is rubbing. Might need 5mm spacers.

anywho.. brands gp next

khooni 20-02-2022 05:23 PM

so
whilst i'm enjoying the 18" square setup, i do have rubbing issues that would benefit from an alignment. I'm still adjusting to the level of grip on turn in and I'm still not maximising the grip on offer. I hope that'll change in time.

Meanwhile

i spied the zestino gredge 07RS as a soft semi slick alternative at 643 quid for a set courtesy of demon tweeks. Anyone tried these?

Get the car set up properly, it will make a massive difference. Where are they rubbing?

I have ran them, pretty decent grip for the money over a lap or two.

2.09 lap at Snett on them.

But I would pay more and go Dunlop 03G or Ar1/trofeo for the grip.

khooni 11-03-2022 02:50 PM

unfortunately tyre size not available with CSL wheels.

yes am using AR-1 with the square 18 apex wheels
