Help, front bumper spats!

One of mine decided to go on a flying lesson

I am going to buy two genuine new ones, as the ones on there seem to be aftermarket. The bumper has seen better days, well the lower part which hold the spats on anyway. So will need to secure them properly. They seem so flimsy, and no idea how the new ones will attach, so anyone got a pic of theirs? Or how the spats attach on. As may look out for a used bumper, well of I can.

Can't drive it with one spat! :(

They attach by two pins at the bottom. BMW produced two versions. Think the newer ones don't fit as well.

All the ones off eBay or other replicas don't fit properly either.

Will try and get a pic of one, as don't think these are real, but they are 1x1 and fit very well. Well they used to!

Anyone got a spare bumper :smt055

Splitter has no holes at all, just sticks on :(

No Holes and just sticks on: Replica.
Two Holes and 2x push in Plugs: Original.
Four Holes and 4x push in plugs: BMW Revision of Original.

Flippers send them to Mark CSL will have that looking like new in no time, the bumper a bumper repair specialist should be able to fix that for you. :)

I will order new spats on monday from BMW. But need to get the other side sorted, as now nothing to attach them to.

Would love to find a complete one, then i can get mine fixed in my own time. I have re drilled a couple of hole in the mangled one, so its on for the time being. Looks sh@ though :(

You have more chance of Hell freezing over, than finding a complete bumper in good order.
There was one on ebay last week but it made yours look perfect by comparison, it was fit for the skip!
Although I have no doubt it will be repaired and reappear on ebay in the next couple of weeks. :hahaha:

Yeah I saw that one, and another damaged repaired one. Seems quite common, and I was a bit worried about the rest of mine, but seems ok luckily! :smt055

Post a picture of the underside of the splitter, would of thought these would have two pin holes.

What the ones on there? As they have no holes at all. And are bonded on, well were bonded on :banghead::hahaha:

Bumper off tomorrow, and the other spat. Then going to fabricate an aluminium bracket, and maybe reinforce the other side as well!

Will update with pics, but should work well. Just don't feel confident layering carbon over the already weak support. :)

Chrisc 04-03-2014 07:51 PM

If anyone has this problem, then hopefully this may be of some use.

I got the two new spats/splitters from BMW this morning, and the fit is actually worse than the reps! But better quality, although like a matte appearance :119:

So made some templates, used aircraft grade aluminium for the bases, and slightly thinner aly for the supports. All this is hidden, and does not move when in place .

First one, and the better side

Second all riveted and fixed.

First one fixed

And back on

Gave me a chance to get new arch liners, all new bolts throughout. New screen wash filter (had one anyway) and treat the two E12 bolts.

Still think the bumper is such a sh@ design!!

Thinking about getting a vorts one, and look out for a complete unbroken original as well.

I did wonder why they were a matte finish.

Have you seen this before? O thought it may have been a coating they apply, or a different lacquer for them

Will phone the dealer tomorrow if they are not supposed to be like that. I took one out the box and thought "wtf is this" but after seeing the other one was the same, thought it must be like that.

I don't think it's right.......unless all my shiny ones were varnished :)

:hahaha: its weird as the rear diffuser is normally this type, where as the roof is shiney.

I will call and see how many they have left. They are the newer ones with two drilled holes and two marked holes (to be drilled if you want more fixings). And will check the date code on the boxes.

shimmy 04-03-2014 09:18 PM

It just looks unfinished, but it could be your cameraworkm:-D

Chrisc 04-03-2014 09:21 PM

Na they are a weird finish on them. Certainly not shiney like all the performance CF bits I had for the 92.

billyboysm3 04-03-2014 10:19 PM

Um, looks like they have not varnished them, defo take them back as they are not cheap.

The rear diffuser should also be like the roof.

Will see what they say, but a bit weird, as I'm sure they had different date codes, so were a while between manufacturer :119:

CraigMillwardCroft 05-03-2014 08:05 AM

They look well flat not finished

sjb 05-03-2014 08:51 AM

Any good as a temporary fix???

sjb 05-03-2014 08:53 AM

Ignore that^ completely missed the whole of page 2 :clown:

Chrisc 05-03-2014 01:36 PM

Just oft off the phone with BMW, who say that this is the correct finish. You can either leave them like that, or get them lacquered if you want them shiney :wanker:

Brilliant :hahaha:

MCSL 05-03-2014 06:35 PM

They come un-lacquered. I just bought 2 and was pissed to see they come in a crappy matt finish... looked shite so got Bedford Elms to lacquer them. Now they look all nice and shiny :-D

At least someone else shares my pain :-D

sailorbaz 05-03-2014 11:32 PM

Must be a new thing cause last time I bought some off BMW, they were lacquered and ready to go straight on. Was a few years ago mind you, maybe 5.

Shame you have to pay a Bodyshop to lacquer them after spending best part of what, £400 on a pair?

Chrisc 06-03-2014 06:34 AM

Exactly. £175 plus vat each, and no lacquer! Glad the car comes with some lol

i think mine stand me at about £450 (including lacquering). I probably should of just had the old pair refurbed if i had of thought about it properly. doh.

Chris-CSL 06-03-2014 11:19 AM

billyboysm3 07-03-2014 08:16 AM

Mark, why don't you put some splitter refurb prices up in the for sale section, I'll set you a website up called www.MarksCarbonPorn.org

Chrisc 07-03-2014 09:40 AM

You think I could reverb the reps? One is fine, and the other, well as the first pic :-D
