Inspection 1 Prices?

Morning all,

thought there was a sticky with latest service prices, but can't seem to find it, or maybe i'm going mad.

Dropped Cecil off this morning for its MOT and we worked out it needs a service as well (time expired rather than on miles).

They've quoted me £860 (Battersea). Pretty sure this is what i paid for an inspection 2 a few years ago. Questioned it and they said that an inspection 2 was now £1,050.

So, thoughts please. Appreciate London is more expensive and there's the convenience of it being nearby, but interested to know how it compares...

There is only 1 call to make,

Have left a message with them, waiting for them to come back to me.

Suspect had i realised in advance i could have got Battersea down. Annoying, but as they're two miles from my front door, it's convenient for now.

I thought Servicing prices were supposed to have been standardised throughout the Dealer network, eg:
Inspection 1: £669
Oil Service: £169
Inspection 2: £989
I've an oil service coming up in the next week or so, lets see how much?

Can anyone confirm?

shimmy 21-11-2013 11:26 AM

standard prices but discounts offered esp for older cars and CSLR members

Johnnywb 21-11-2013 12:04 PM

Shimmy,

is that the £669 is the standard price? I was expecting it to be more this level than the £869 Battersea quoted this morning.

DazBlackCSL 21-11-2013 01:00 PM

In my experience they do differ from dealer to dealer, as does the standard of service etc.

Always used Sytner Ascot for mine over the 3/4 years I had the CSL and couldn't fault them or the cost which was about the going rate, as in not one of the dearest or cheapest.

Who owns Battersea now ?

think its standard price across the dealer network, although I had to alert my local dealers attention to this deal last time I was in for an oil service. Their original quote was well in excess of the offer.

It's the little asterisk that'll make all the difference!

Neil M 21-11-2013 02:52 PM

Two Little asterisks denotes that additional charges MAY apply, it doesn't state that they will, that statement leaves it open to interpretation!

If they levy an additional charge for services or parts provided, then they should state this as being fact and not use the term May! :119:

Standardised prices is bollox. I got my dealer down quite a lot on an insp 2. They want the work at the end of the day.

Johnnywb 22-11-2013 02:25 PM

I got them down on their Insp 2 before.

Sadly this time, i wasn't prepared in advance.

On the BMW website is says the £669 only applies to participating dealers. I would guess that Battersea don't participate!

Neil M 22-11-2013 03:11 PM

If they don't participate, the don't give them the business. That way next time they will!

Johnnywb 25-11-2013 10:16 PM

I'm just waiting for the follow up call i get after each visit.

MOT passed though and service all done and a few other little bits. Must try and do a few more miles next year though...

Andyk 26-11-2013 05:49 AM

Bloody hell...£800....That seems a lot but I suppose thats London prices for you.

Makes the chap who looks after my cars seem like a bargain.....Would never trust my cars to anyone else. He was a BMW master tech before he set up on his own a number of years back and since then has looked after my CSL, M3, M5 and TVR T350T when I had them .... What he doesn't know about cars ain't worth knowing..

I think Battersea's labour rate is something like £170 per hour, which makes keeping the warranty upto date a must.

If they weren't 3 miles from my house and on the way to the office, i would probably use Elms like many others, but the convenience factor is pretty high.

When i pushed them on their Inspection 2 service, they relented and reduced the price, but it took a week or two of hassling. Sadly this time i didn't have the time, as i only realised the car needed a service when i was there (time expired service rather than mileage).

On the plus side, after being quoted £650 by the parts department for a replacement load cover for the boot of my E91 (it didn't come with one) I've found one on Ebay for £80. Win.

Dont forget there will be an extra charge for shims when the valve clearances are done. Or there should be anyway.....If you drop your car off in the morning and it's ready the same day there's a very good chance that valve clearances have not been done!

BMW servicing prices are getting really aggresive, they're trying to win back customers from indys. We charge £600 for Insp1, £800 for Insp2 (although we do replace the fuel filter in that price). And of course we need the car for 2 days;) Can probably do 10% off parts for CSL register members.

That's good to know.

They did have the car for two days, so no worries there.
