Audi R8

Hey guys,

Anyone on here got an R8? v8 version in particular.

Ive got my eye on a 2008 manual one and would like to hear feedback from anyone who either has one or has owned one.

I know they are thirsty.......no problem, but wondering if I can believe what I hear for running one as a daily driver?

Are they reliable and anything in particular I should look out for?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Cheers:partyman:

I haven't owned one, but I have driven one and it was a lovely thing - one of the best cars I have driven for how it felt / handled. The interior was a nice place to be and felt much better quality than an F430s. The manual change and heal & toeing was a joy and it did not handle like an Audi (which is a good thing ;)).

Unfortunately I haven't owned one to give any feedback on running costs and although I really enjoyed it, I'd still have an equivalent price GT3 over one, but that is because I'm a Porsche fanboy and that is what I want next :).

I want a go in the Simpson Motorsport one.

the general manager for our uk division runs one as his daily smoker.

American guy who came over from Microsoft US and he has tonnes of cash so I doubt he worries about running costs.

he said to me its very reliable, sure footed, lovely place to be and makes a great noise. his is the v8. looks the part too and you have 4wd for the winter.

he sometimes brings in the wife's 991 c4s Cab too and occasionally the Gallardo on nice days. has a few Ferraris back home in seattle too.

nice bloke and total car nut which is good.

I looked at one and took it on a nice test drive. I agree with everything Mike says, except one core difference. I concluded that, image-wise, it's a girls car. :119:

CSLut has one and a CSL. He was in it at Spa last month, enjoying it to its max.

I tested several V8s and V10s in Paul Ricard Racetrack during 3 full days.
Very good impression.
- Invincible breaks, even after 3 days of hard usage
- Great Interior, often "full options"
- What a sound ! Curiously I prefered the V8 to the V10 in many points. The V8 is more usable in fast driving. Less difficult to push to the limit, more easy to "play with".

If one day I want to change my CSL it will be for an R8 V8 ... or a 997 GT3 (but I will keep my CSL anyway )

Thanks for all the replies guys, some really positive towards getting the R8 and some not (girls car? WTF?)

Going to spend a bit more time thinking on this one, itll be by far the most expensive car ive ever bought, need to make sure its the right one........

My csl will need to go which will be a hard pill to swallow to finance it!:bigcry:

True. I tested the "old" gearbox; never the double clutch one :partyman:
