Imo they actually look better than the originals...!!!

Neil M 24-04-2013 12:00 PM

Whatever happened to yours Steve?
Excellent - many have tried but few have succeeded, Laser etched? fixing would be better using 3m double sided, looks like you used a 'Plate Pad' temporary job?

Still waiting on father in law but he's been off work since xmas after having an issue with both hands (like a serious case of arthritis).

I agree :smt023 I'm not too keen on the chrome finish of the original, which I have in mine.

Thanks Steve! I didn't want to pay too much for an original, so I looked into sign makers. To get one replica made up it was around £35.00, so I got 10 made up and received a discount!

With 'Mark CSL' doing his CF trims and the plaque looking like a stuck on afterthought I considered a personalised graphic, which could be embedded in the CF lacquer, this is mine in the style of the GTS where it wasn't an afterthought, any thoughts gentlemen?

Correction: July not June as illustrated

For mine I made a sticker, it is very similar like Neil's one. My idea comes again from the GTS ;) If there is somebody who wants the same like mine I will check the price and the shipping from Bulgaria to UK ;)

Neil M 05-05-2013 01:22 PM

Ha, ha, "Great minds think alike" or so they say - great job Viktor. :supz:
However the UK cars are not quite that simple, as they do not have numbers assigned, just 1 of 422 Units and the production date: 01.07.03 - 31.12.03.

It would take time to establish what number the car was, from the build data.
Mine was manufactured in the first production batch JC98021 - JC98117 so was relatively simple.

gazzzar 05-05-2013 01:39 PM

Hehe, you are absolutely right for the great minds :):):). I think that The UK cars starts from JC98000 and ends to JC98422, the last three digits are the serial number of the car ;) so it is not so hard to find the serial number :partyman:

were the 1st batch special ? mine is an early number car too ;) :-D

Neil M 05-05-2013 03:43 PM

If you PM me your chassis No (last 7 digits I can tell you) which batch and Number.
First production batch, noting particularly special, other than they were the first ordered by potential owners who were prepared to pay the asking price, the committed enthusiasts and collectors.

Steve B 05-05-2013 06:00 PM

Mine ends 482....

Its not as easy as that I'm afraid, apparently they didnt come off the production line in the same order as the vin numbers.Others have tried and failed because of this.:(

Neil M 05-05-2013 08:27 PM

Steve your car is from the November 03 production run. However the actual number is not as simple as "oh so yours is 482" as you might think, it's a little harder to establish as the production cars started at JC98021 and are not necessarily consecutive eg. there are five missing chassis numbers between August and September. Just need more numbers to corroborate the existing information :119:

There is also an anomaly, in that the plaque says 422n UK Units but the build data suggests a total production of 517, that figure does not include the 7 pre-poduction models the first of which was numbered JC98001 and ended with 012.

What's the last 3 digits of your number Bounce?

Shhhhh don't tell everyone its actually a 318ci lol

Neil M 06-05-2013 10:03 PM

Might have been cheaper to buy an original than all those conversion costs :hahaha:
That's just killed any sales potential, just in case you were thinking of taking that route:thumbs:

Like this gents, reproduced in dark silver for subtle contrast on Titanium trim, sliver for any Carbon trim users.

It's with the signman as we speak 061 that is:thumbs:

Now to get back on thread:
These are the people who make the specialised badges for car companies: http://www.fxuk.net/services.aspx?url=vehicle-badging

A typical example being the Golf GTI Anniversary Limited Edition Plaque.
You'll also note from the image attached the spurious number? As there was 1800 models made and factory fitted with the plaque.
Anyone requiring a replacement for whatever reason will not get their original number but the next available number on the reproduction list.:bigcry:

These are free from VW with proof of 'Anniversary' ownership.
Obviously this was open to abuse and could be found on our favorite Auction site at one time almost monthly. The last No. I saw was '1843' that's a lot of plaques gone missing and were selling at up to £100 a pop at their peak.:119:

Mike R 22-05-2013 09:44 PM

That's not my number .
