Yeah, I thought it was too good to be true but this guy is a 'top rated seller' with decent feed back. How do these guys get away with this shit:partyman:

Spoke to seller few days back and he swears blind they are genuine and when mentioning there's no BMW markings he said because he brought them direct from BBS.

This is an age old controversy, previously discussed where manufacturers go on to produce a part/s under their own branding after their license agreement with the retailer (in this case BMW) has expired. (poss another indication that CSL parts are on the downturn with BMW) However the way to tell is on the reverse side of the wheel, where you should find the BBS branding as per the images, without that - Fake and No Thanks  |
Apart from all the correct casting on the face and inner spokes of the wheel, I find the best way to distinguish the genuine from the fakes is to check that it has dual tone paint. The back of the spokes and the outter drum is painted a different colour to the face itself. Also the earlier wheels have a slightly different drum casting to the newer manufactured wheels (an inner v indent band that runs the full circumference at about 1/3 from the face of the spokes).

Anyway, the first batch of wheels that came out had a balancing issue that couldn't be cured - so a whole new design and batch was made - even with new part numbers. This isn't to say that the older style wheels are all bad, just some of them were. The old set I have is perfectly fine and have never had any balancing issues. Quote:

Just bumping this back up as I recently noticed something I didn't before with the genuine CSL wheels ... looks like the newer production ones now have laser etched part numbers:
The two tone paint is still there and the V band on the inner drum I can now confirm is only on the old version of the rear wheels. http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n...ps361b9605.jpg http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n...ps4ee8807a.jpg http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n...ps9bb7209a.jpg http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n...psa31e7445.jpg |
