DCT.. could be getting close

I'll just leave this here...

I think there's nothing I'd like more in an otherwise standard CSL than a silky smooth 7sp DCT.

Interesting, I wonder what sort of cost??

This was my one take away from my recent M2 test drive. Wish I could get this box in the CSL.

I wouldn't. +50kg Heavier, Boring and not faster compared to SMG II at full chat.
Only downside to SMG is its clunkyness at slow speeds, which i don't care about.

No way. The gearbox is part of the cars character.

It's a bit like buying a vintage car and then fitting a gearbox with synchromesh because you can't double de clutch. Defeats the whole point of owning the car.

Each to their own :)

Where abouts in Germany are you?

RE cost - I have a preliminary breakdown of the main parts and it's looking around 8K GBP all in I'd say. Along with that you get a top of the line standalone management system too.

Living in a small town in bavaria surely helps. :blalalala:
But imho the smg is part of the csl's character.

Helps what?? #confused

I won't try to change your mind, it's a valid point and a choice dependant on style and wants.

For me a few kgs placed in a strategically placed area and a cost not hideously more then a full SMG refresh are a good trade off to keep the car close to standard, but fresh, happier, smoother, more responsive and more reliable- the system in question is highly configurable with enough time investment and doesn't compromise any/many standard features. DCT is the way forward. The concept of elegantly getting new tech in an older/classic car is quite appealing to me as one car person.

Look at what Singer do with old Porsches - to me it's awesome.

Don't get me wrong, the next step wouldn't be a v8 or turbo/sc - the heart of the car is a straight6 with that classic M3 balance between race and street pushed just a touch more hardcore - DCT can only add to that imho. It fixes what many, if not all ;-) see as the weakest link.

I'm glad some people want to keep things perfectly as they were.

All the above. SMG to CSL spec is part of the character of the car and I love it.

I have an M2 and I wouldn't have the DCT from it in the CSL. It would be the thing of nightmares for me!

Well, i usually don't have to sit in traffic with my csl because there isn't much any in my small town. And i don't drive the csl when i plan to visit the city nearby. Thats what i meant with the "small village" claim.

I am genuinely curious about your endeavour and would like to hear about the progress and problems that may arise in the process. I think my post came across the wrong way, i did not mean to mock you, i just wanted to make clear what the possible drawbacks are.

The csl being your daily driver makes your decision all the more understandable.

Its only the weakest link, because all of the remaining "links" are that strong :hahaha:
In all seriousness, i've read about its problems but i have yet to experience any gearbox related issues. Its mostly americans mocking the SMG because of their strong affection towards manuals.
