Well that didn't work quote right!!!!!

You're meaant to be slagging each other off. Bugger.

Spa was ace for me this year. High point of my TD 'career' so far and posting a few times in the 2m54s was good. Unfortunately downhil ever since :(

I reckon Curly in front or behind and a fresh set of Cups helped.

My brother has just signed up for the Caterham Academy next season so I am extra miffed that I can't afford a season next year.

Gotta be nice to him, he has the keys

Get yer license Shim, you never know how it'll pan out and I guess we could do some 3 driver action in the 2 hour races next year, 40 mins each :D

El_Gordo 29-09-2009 10:57 PM

I set myself the very achievable goal of getting my licence + 1 sig this year, dont worry about doing a season, just set yourself that goal - this racing malarky just seems to snowball, we have BIG plans for 2010

All I have to do is find a way of being able to access our savings without the wifes approval and I am sorted

Fuch's favourite scene is the "I'll hit the single piston brakes and the AP hobby drivers will fly right by" bit.

Could someone give me a brief descriptions on how much it costs to race?

Also, i see that the times at snett were 1:14 - 1:19s. What would you guys expect to get if you had semi slicks on, instead of full slicks?

disqualified!

Bealo 20-10-2009 09:30 AM

I reckon a full weight CSL with cups, suspension,AP's and decent neg camber would get a high 1m 19s round Snetterton

_Nathan_ 20-10-2009 09:53 AM

As for cost - look in the CSLCup forum further down

i agree, a proper driver i think could get to 1m 19s whereas i think i am going to have to lower my sights to get into the 1m 20s only:bigcry:

_Nathan_ 20-10-2009 12:53 PM

Just cheat and use slicks ;)

I reckon we will both get there next year big man, i think some neg camber will help loads... I've got 1.1 secs to find to get a 1m19.9 lol

Uh oh, chasing times in a road car...!

Bealo 20-10-2009 07:34 PM

What like you don't try to improve your times when you return to at track???

I managed a 1m19s on my R1 at Snett and would be chuffed if i managed it in the CSL

Improve my smoothness/track craft yes - in the knowledge that I'm hopefully improving lap times - but I never time or try to beat any timings previously set.

I do know roughly how quick I am around the Ring for example, but that's only from the odd in-car lap video footage that I have managed to sneak in the past! I am in the low 8 mins and would like to think that I could do a sub 8 mins lap at some point but I do not routinely time laps.

Again, I only roughly know lap times at the UK tracks I have been to due to video footage.

When people start chasing that 'elusive' time barrier is when things can come unstuck, IMHO (without wishing to sound like a boring old fart...!) I just enjoy the drive and occasional scalp from a GT3...

shimmy 20-10-2009 08:37 PM

Yep you are right Rob, it can be dangerous to chase times and to be honest even though I know my best times and do like to improve on them I do that by improving my driving ability or set up rather than going over the 95% effort level that is normal for most TD drivers.

Bealo 20-10-2009 09:54 PM

Listen to the crap you two are talking about.

i'm not the one with the data logger Shim.......

apart from it being an open forum Stu and not wanting to discuss who has and doesnt have data loggers on test days or trackdays, i dont chase times

i talk about times and try to drive faster by learning to drive better, just like you.

data loggers can help by analysing performance afterwards and helps, like it did with me, see if me or the car are not working very well

chasing times is dangerous especially for those that risk it by watching times as they drive

Well put Rob and Shimmy. Chasing times in road cars on track just leads to trouble. For me it's pure fun and enjoyment of using a cars performance keeping my licence safe. Save the stopwatch for racing.

It's far safer in a race car built to regs. I prefer to save my time chasing for kart racing (EKC Endurance Pro-Karts). Good, cheap value for money motorsport with real and tough competition but above all comparatively safe.
