Hi Steve

M3 CSL has a Manual Gearbox with an Automated Clutch , so effectively & technically it's an automated manual gearbox, as per Owners Manual (p55) but obviously it can be driven like an AUTO.
I've got a strange feeling it's not officially an AUTO :smt017 so it's probably best to check with DVLA who are the Licence issuers to avoid any future nonsense with the Bizzies or Insurers.

I'm inclined to agree with Matt, it's a bit of a grey area as to its true designation in legal terms, but I would think that if driven in Auto mode then she would be within the law.

However should she have an accident GF, then no doubt the insurance company would use/exploit the greyness to their advantage. DVLA is the way to go and get something in writing.

There is no grey area guys. Take it from a guy who knows 100%

A car in the eyes of the law, (regardless if the car has an a manual box persee) is classed as automatic if it has no clutch pedal which the driver can operate independently.

Its only classed as manual if it has a clutch pedal which the driver presses.

As the man in the know below says....

A very nice DVLA man said exactly that... No clutch pedal and the vehicle is classed as an automatic (even thought it comes up as a manual on the DVLA system I use at work). Glad I checked as you never know what insurance companies say.:smokin:

Cheers again
Steve
