found around the cornet, some news and uptade to come

Sunday 21st March 2010 at 14:00

We have been made aware of the fact there has been some damage sustained to the HGV-tunnel which runs under the 'Blanchimont' corner at Spa-Francorchamps. We have not had contact with the circuit management directly and at this time we have no further information other than it is not thought that anyone has been injured and surveyors will be assessing the damage tomorrow (Monday) with a view to making a decision on the continued use of the circuit then.

Please be patient with us while we await further instructions for the circuit management. More information will be released as soon as we have it. In the meantime please do not contact us regarding this issue as we have no further useful information at this time.

UPDATED Monday 22nd March 2010 at 10:00

We have now heard from the circuit and they have confirmed that structural engineers are currently assessing the damage with a view to making a decision on the work involved before close of business today. We hope to have an update no later than 19:00 GMT today.

PLEASE DO NOT PHONE US FOR UPDATES!

Information will be added here as soon as we have it. stay tuned

s.mac 22-03-2010 06:21 PM

fingers crossed, hopefully they will know sooner rather than later

DazBlackCSL 22-03-2010 08:05 PM

Bugger will be a shame, BUT ... two days at the ring will be cool, and a cheeky road trip Monday & Tuesday on the cards would not be a bad call in the worst case....

News of the day...

track is closed until 10 April for now, all trackdays, events, teams trainings are cancelled till this date. :(

AlexGTT 23-03-2010 07:12 PM

Yes, there is a under track tunnel that is un-safe I think. May Spa still OK though...............................for now.

shimmy 23-03-2010 07:16 PM

ive heard that the work at worse will take 3 months as it will mean digging up the track and supporting new tunnel structure.

question is;

will they just close it and cope and do it in the winter?

OR

will they just bodge it up and stick some acrows under the concrete and fill in the cracks with polyfiller as this is mainland europe :smokin:

Manny_RDS 23-03-2010 07:43 PM

The F1 is in September usually.

It will be fixed by then

I'll do it with some gaffer tape, zip ties and some nice self tappers, I'm sure I've got some wood screws lying around the shed... :bigcry: :bigcry:

What's the plan then for the trip boys? Assume if it gets cancelled we get a refund from MLR? That should easily fund another day at the ring plus beers & steak.

Spa Francorchamps Circuit, Press release, 24 March 2010

Circuit de Spa Francorchamps S.A. wishes to report that track activities at the Spa Francorchamps Circuit have been suspended until 15 April due to the collapse of the Blanchimont tunnel.
The Intercommunal Circuit Association, which is responsible for maintenance of the site, has drawn up a schedule which foresees the end of stabilisation work on the track and its verges by this date.
Circuit de Spa Francorchamps S.A. has no choice but to cancel all events scheduled to take place on the Circuit up to and including Thursday 15 April. All sports races will be able to go ahead as normal, since none of them were scheduled to take place before 24 April.
The cancelled events concern competitive teams from Spain, Italy and Germany coming to train in preparation for the 2010 season, as well as English, Dutch and German teams coming to Francorchamps so that their many members can enjoy use of the track.
Cancellation of events at the Circuit unfortunately also means cancellation of a large number of overnight stays in hotels and guesthouses in the region.

Sounds to me like it's panic over and no problem for the trackday to go ahead, if they are letting races go ahead on the 24th April then a trackday 6 weeks later will be fine!

Thanks David for the update
