Thanks

Anybody see the full moon last Tuesday?
Not sure you'll get much response to this thread.
Why? I want to know if to go down the warranty route myself

Warranty... That would be nice haha,
But with my first csl,
Drivers electric window switch
Down selector switch on the steering wheel
BUT but, back then m cars had an excess of £250 ex vat, so had to pay both, conveniently only cost around £200 each lol
I know someone that knows someone, and they've had nearly everything replaced under warranty... Oh look a white buffalo

You would have been better asking how many have warranty.
There are a few cars that have had engines and other parts done with warranty that would have been a big expense.
i would not buy a CSL with out warranty but there are a few on here that don't have it

Because with respect and to put it bluntly, I doubt you'd get too many folks wanting to spill this information on A. on a public domain, and B. to a user who registered this month and has a grand total of 7 posts ! You may have more luck PM'ing a few folks or running a poll.
As Mark has said, some dont run a warranty. Some run a warranty and have had little in the way of claims. Others have had some big items replaced.
The question you should ask yourself is do you have a big enough slush fund to pay for a big item (engine, gearbox etc) if it goes pop....£10-£20K? Even something like an SMG pump, which will go at some point, will be c. £1800.
If you have (or you're handy under the bonnett), then there is a case for not running one. Sadly, my pockets are not that deep and my tech knowledge of cars is (very) limited.
It suits me to run a warranty as it offers peace of mind which is worth significant value to me. I work hard, so when its play time I want it to be stress free. Will I be worried if my engine goes bang when we're halfway accross Europe in May ? Nope, because I have BMW breakdown cover and an extended warranty. Well worth £80 per month.
I also believe it is attractive to punters if you ever want to move the car on.
Hope that helps - good luck
Ok thanks guys for the last few replies. Understand re spilling too much info on a public forum. Still looking for a good car...

No worries, I read my reply back and it may seem a little curt.....wasn't meant to be mate, but hopefully you get my point.
If you want a warranty, remember that a car which may not be under warranty currently may still be eligible....so dont neccesarily discount these.

Cheers for the link Yanto :)
I've got the heads up on a car - but don't think it is currently under the BMW scheme, but doing low-mileage (maybe 2/3/4k year) i'm tempted to put the cash in the bank and take the risk. I didn't find your message 'curt' at all mate

I don't have warranty, not an option here.
I have had the vanos solenoid unit and vanos gearbox replaced by goodwill of BMW AG.
I also had to replace a steering rack pipe, viscus coupling fan, thermostat.
The other stuff (bushes, suspension etc) are consumables in my opinion.
Last but not least, I have changed the clutch set (which was unnecessary).
I would advise you to get warranty since you have the option, because many expensive things can go wrong.
See it as a short to medium term investment :-D
thanks alexk. Decided i will continue with the monthly scheme as car i'm looking at currently under it :)
shimmy, i've tried to send you an e-mail through your profile - not sure if it's worked or not ?
