We have a plan or two to look at transporting rims to Salzburg for the 28th.
Who would want this at say £6-8 each rim/tyre a set of 4 (including somehow swapping them over and back) and you should be able to drop them at a couple of locations north and south on the way to the ports!

£6-8 per RIM SO £25-36 a set Keeping in mind it's 1800 miles at 30mpg so 60 gallons, 270 litres, that's £350 on fuel, £250 crossing, £100 tolls plus 4 days for one man :)

I think it's 6-8 per wheel Adam, its a long old way down to salzburg.... It must be a big van to get 48 wheels in it

I'd guess Cups do 6000miles on road and you probably loose 1000miles every trAckday.:banghead:
So technically 2000miles saved on road will save you £400 and cost you £25

Ok, well Dave at Opentrack has coem up trumps! Book the wheel transport as you book the trackday
Wheels can be delivered to the circuit and returned to the Uk for a cost of £25 a set payable on collection at the circuit.
We will be arranging Three points of collection.
North = Sheffield.
Middle = Cambridgeshire / Cambourne
South = Kent / Brands Hatch area

I can't see how you can do a set of tyres in on the trip unless you go drifting.
Most of it on motorway followed by some track time.
Kiss off death but I'll take what's on the rims.

Well from previous track days and experience , you can guess the current state of my tyres ! They would get me down there, but would be shagged after TD. Running on my 18" rims at moment but have spare proper CSL purest 19" rims, if that is the order of the day for this trip, other wise I will just bang a brand new set of 18" Cups onto a spare set of TD 18" wheels and keep square set up. Given state of my car, perhaps it could be the shining example of how NOT to treat such a wonderful piece of machinery !:hahaha:
Put me down for a set of rims Shimster/Dave.

Mine will be 18" so not much help to most !:hahaha:

If anyone has never been to the ring before, then you do not really need cups at the ring..... if you know which way the track goes then thats fine, if you don't then you don't really want to be trying to go round corners as fast as cups can carry you!
DunCaN is excepted to this rule as he drives on canvas

Shimmy.the front tyre only have 3mm tread and the rear I bought from mattcslnut have around 2.5mm.in another thread which I cant find it Was discussed that a new set of cups may not make the whole trip so I Got no chance wid these.I've spent 600 on the road tyres so I can't buy new cups right now.Mrs had capped my spends lol.

What I'm asking is can we not find a way of sticking with shimmys original plan and pay for a person who is going to take sets to all or both destinations?I know it bears on the amount of people who still want tyres taken for them but do we still have time to arrange this please?as long as we get enough takers.

This is about the number needed to make it work - (extra cost of fuel and tunnel for transit rather than car)
More would be good.
However Adem.csl, I don't think they will be going to the Ring as Dave has a TD on the Friday so he will be leaving I guess on the Saturday or even Sunday for Munich/Salzburg. I will ask him just incase but I doubt he will beheading for Ring in time for Saturday morning laps.

I may be missing the point.sorry.were you having Daves contact taking the rims originally or another person?
I thought we would be at the ring for Friday evening in time to get time on the ring?
So I was assuming the original plan you had was to get someone who was going to ring then Salzburg then ring again?
So as in'they'you mean daves driver?because Dave has a td on England his driver won't leave till sat or Sunday in time for Salzburg?I understand that.

God knows what you typed and what was mine but tbh I don't care.
"I don't think he will be at the Ring as he is going UK to Salzburg"
To make it cost effective it has to be Dave and his oppo who is taking a transit instead of his car (to help us) and they are going together after a Friday trAckday in the uk.
I will ask him but I doubt he will be at the Ring at all let alone Saturday morning

The plan is getting clearer........slightly
Opentrack are bringing our wheels, but only setting off on saturday:thumbs:
Adem, if you really have to you can put 4 wheels in your car, try them at the ring, and take em to salzburg, then give them to dave to bring home if you want....
unless you are going to be under 9minbtg tho you don't really need cups - until you know it, its a country road - I will not be using my track tyres at the ring:wink: especially if its raining - which it does a lot there:moan:
and I will probably have to get a courier to sheffield the midlands pick up point:-D

Yes Jim, sorry if not clear but Im not spending a lot of time on wheels until Salzburgring until other things are sorted.
Opentrack (dave and his mate) are taking te transit to help us get our tyres there. It costs them more than the car hence the slight charge to take them.
They will be leaving Saturday or Sunday from Uk (I think) and not going to the Ring and maybe not to Munch but direct to Salzburg for the trackday.
They are coming straight home as well
Otherwise
